FOUND! 'Lost' this 20 years ago.
« on: January 15, 2014, 07:13:35 PM »
My father who to be honest, loses stuff everyday like the cheque i gave him from the insurance company for the written off car.
"I put i there and now it's gone" he says everyday. It's only for £17,600 so no biggie!

Anyway, today he called me and told me he'd found something that i would want.
Doubting it i drove up and he handed me this tube.
What was in it i hear you ask?

It's a Nirvana tour poster i bought in 92' when they came to Glasgow when they were still unknown and played the Glasgow Queen Margaret Union for about 300 people.
I was gonna get this framed but lost it at some point and it found it's way to my dads new flat 22 years later. No idea how.
Still in great condition and i will get it framed. It's only 20" x 30".

I am truly amazed and humbled that i have got my hands on this again. I spoke to Kurt and Chad that night and bought Kurt a beer which he dropped, apologised and wandered off with some young girl. We truly connected!
Thank you dad!

This gig was in 1991, not 92. My fault.

Actually found the entire audio on youtube last night.
Finding stuff like that really blows my mind. I think i hear myself shout at one point!

When in '91?

I was at this show... and had an extra ticket... Halloween 1991, I did wear a flannel shirt...

Wow. Super jealous.

Do you remember the whole thing?
Shocked they let that dude dance next to Kurt during 'Drain You'.

Says 30 November 1991 but i remember it being warm outside. May just be the memory playing up.

In looking back at what you wrote, I think that you may still be off on the date.  Dave Grohl was their drummer by that time in 1991, not Chad Channing, who was their Bleach-era drummer (he left during the recording of Nevermind). I'm guessing that you probably saw them in the fall of '89 on the Bleach tour (this also fits with the poster).

Pretty much, I've had a high quality bootleg of the show since the late '90s.  This is one of the very few times where the phrase 'electricity in the air' was a spot on description.  Tickets were going upwards of 10x the $15 face value ($10.00 ticket and $5 to ticketbastards, yes, a 50% 'service' fee) outside the theater.

I had 15th row center tickets on the main floor, which put us as the first row under the lip of the balcony, so I was standing just under the microphone visible at 2:31 (just left of center) of the below Rape Me vid.  It was a perfect view and we were just far enough away from the pit that we could actually enjoy the show.

My two favorite songs of the night were the only two that I'd never heard before - Rape Me & Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam - how often does that happen?  The Polly lead in to Breed, School and Lithium (they used footage from this show for the official Lithium video) were other highlights.

The dancers were friends of the band and were really only obvious for the first few songs, thankfully...

The funny thing was that amongst my group of friends the consensus was that Nirvana was the second best band of the night. Co-headliner Mudhoney, who was a bigger band in Seattle at the time tickets went on sale, put on an amazing hour-long set that had the joint humming long before Kurt & Co. took the stage.

Not much more than 100 people witnessed the floundering awfulness that was the first opening act, Bikini Kill, notable only for the exposed left nipple of the lead "singer".  Half way through their set a guy next to me leaned over to his buddy and said 'I saw these guys 6 weeks ago and, believe it or not they've actually gotten better.  I couldn't see how that was possible.

At the very end of the full concert vid, you can see someone throw leaflets from the balcony.  I caught one for the Alice in Chains fan club, which I still have...

I'm all confused.
It definitely wasn't Grohl so who was it? Couldn't be Krist, he's a giant! And 91' was the first time they played Scotland as far as i know.
I was a fan of theirs from the start and thought i knew who i spoke to but 20 years of life will screw up your memories.

I did a few drugs back in my teens (and 20's and 30's) so maybe it was some random guy or friend who was with Kurt.
I dunno. Anyway it was a good night.
