Posters in films and television - a game
« on: April 18, 2013, 11:56:00 PM »
I thought it would be fun to start collecting screen shots of posters seen in films or television shows a few months ago and then post them here to see if the elite could identify them!  Just a different and fun way to talk about the hobby and the films we all love!  Working at Starz and watching a thousand films has afforded me a small collection so far so I'll post the first one.  Forgive the iPhone picture of my work monitor but it's the best I can do...

Name the poster, size and one unique fact about it.  Bonus points if you can name the film this screen shot is from...

I have a number of such images and I've been posting them to the MoviePosterBid.com page on Facebook

http://www.facebook.com/Movieposterbidcom

I'm sure this scene from Fritz Lang's "Spione" from 1928 is everyone's favorite

Why is "MoviePosterBid.com" put on all the retro images, which are likely someone else photos?

Steve, a great percentage of the photos I post are from my own scans, or like this one, my own screen captures and the logo is there to promote my page..

I was taking into account that once there are more, the price will drop.  If we find 300 more, I might be able to afford one :P

that would only happen if Chris found them as we all know he would sell them immediately to lower the price to nothing & not think of his future

Not too challenging and somewhat less valuable than the above but still a classic poster image... in it's entirety;

Paul.

Cinderfella, three sheet... trimmed??? That's all I've got!

I posted the three sheet below (walterfilm.com) - looks trimmed to me!  This screen shot is from The Ladies Man (1961 - image by moviepostershop.com), Mr. Jerry Lewis's next film after Cinderfella during his reign at Paramount.  Interestingly enough, according to a Jerry Lewis documentary we produced here, this is the only movie poster art ever that Norman Rockwell was commissioned to do or accepted (have not confirmed personally).

A few other cool tidbits about this movie, because Jerry Lewis was having difficulty directing himself coupled with his want to see what he was doing in relation to the camera, he strapped a video camera to the film camera so he could review his performance before moving on to the next shot, in essence, creating video assist which is pretty much standard for every film you see today.  When you see the behind the scenes and the director is sitting behind a TV screen yelling action and cut, that's video assist.

The 'dollhouse set' was the largest ever built at the time (Rear Window being one of the largest I can think of back then).  It took up two entire Paramount sound stages and included over 40 separate rooms that could be filmed in.

Another screen shot with Jerry Lewis in it... two Jerry Lewis' at the same time!

Woa!  Jerry Lewis himself has lied!!  Or was just wrong...  thanks for correcting Bruce!

GemGem - That Brazil poster is sweet.  Loved the Fisher King AND Brazil.  If you ever get a chance to watch the Criterion version of Brazil, it has three different version of the film and some great behind the scenes stuff.

Yes!  What a horribly awesome movie.   ;D  Watching Craig T. Nelson doing Kung Fu is pretty hilarious too.  It's funny because it was produced by Joel Silver so I dare anyone to go more than five minutes through this movie and not see someone from Predator, Die Hard or Lethal Weapon in it.

Think those are wildings for Predator?

Well as I'm a huge Nouvelle Vague fan it only seems right to add a few examples of how Godard used to use posters in his films:

Vivre sa Vie in Le Mepris

Le Petit Soldat in Pierrot le Fou

and seeing the fact I just recently got this poster... Vivre sa Vie in Two or Three Things I Know About Her.

There's a bunch more stuff at this website:http://www.thecinetourist.net/new-wave-films-in-new-wave-films.html

Okay, this weeks entry is an easy one for poster identification but... name the posters and film... bonus points if you can also point out one eerie poster fact about this movie!

...and the last final and painful to us collectors image

The skeletons that emerge from the swimming pool while Diane searches for help are actual skeletons. JoBeth Williams did not know this until after the scene was shot.
