5.(500) Days of Summer (yeah I probably just blew my street cred there but I love it)

Others... Psycho, City Lights, Dr Strangelove, Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Shaun of the Dead, Amelie, The Princess Bride, The Fountain, Touch of Evil, Une Femme est Une Femme.... I could go on.

I like (500) days and i I don't have any street cred to blow.
Shaun of the dead also great.

Bride of Frankenstein
King Kong  1933
Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein
Dance of the Vampires
Beast from 20,000 fathoms

Just for a quick 5......

Well theres a list of older films that i have never seen of.
I know of a couple but haven't seen any.
I was brought up on films like The Exorcist, Communion, Chain Saw Massacre, Evil Dead, American Werewolf, Nightmare on Elm street, The Omen, Halloween, The Hills have eyes and the like. I'm talking from around 8 or 9 years old my dad used to bring these home. He was and still is great!
It's made me acutely aware that so called 'horror' films of today are total shit.

Sorry, I've just realised this discussion is in the wrong place.  :(
Should be in Movie Talk - Discussions.

I've also realised I've made it to hard to choose a top 5. As soon as i tried to choose i knew i'd made a boob.
So staying with John Cusack's theme I've started a new Top 5 in the right place.

(I'm looking for new films to watch. I spend a lot of time indoors exercising!)

North by Northwest
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I did not like this film. It made me feel sick and I don't get what people see in it that makes it on many lists of great films. Please tell me what you like about it and why it is your favorite film?

I have to admit that I didn't immediately like the film but after many more viewings it's grown on me. It's black humour at it's blackest!

The characters are borderline grotesque, the noir theme, the famous ending. What other film shows plumbers acting like superheroes? Extreme plastic surgery? (my complication had a little complication). A samourai made from computer chips?

It's hard to say why it's my favourite film. Why do we prefer any film over another? It's my comfort blanket - a film I return to time and time again that doesn't grow old.

3.Pierrot le Fou/A Bout de Souffle/Vivre sa Vie (cheating I know but can't decide)

Vivre sa Vie, my favorite Godard movie.  And Anna Karina is not bad either.

People will freak, but Eyes Wide Shut is a similar film for me, the more I watch it the more I love it.

I love Eyes Wide Shut.  It took me by surprise at first, not exactly what I expected, but has grown on me since.  This has been the fate of pretty much every Kubrick film.  People don't get them at first, then understand them years later.  So many reviewers have changed their mind over the years.

For me it's the exact opposite. LOVED it at first but now with every viewing since it makes me feel slightly sick

Well, this is something I disagree with.  It seems that Cruise's crazy antics have made him a bad actor.  I for one think he is a very good actor.  Rain Man, A Few Good Men, The Color of Money, Born on the 4th of July, Eyes Wide Shut, Jerry Maguire... the list goes on and on.  I don't care if he's gay, scientologist, completely out of his mind... he is a good actor.
