It wasn't at auction, was it?
Didn't it have an $850k BIN?

This is the absolute BIGGEST news to hit the hobby since Kerry Haggard. It is great to have something positive to replace it with!

Ummm...I thought one of the guys running MPE actually owned the Metropolis?  Peter by chance?

If so, there would not be any undue delay (and of course their grading confirmation service etc really wouldn't work for a situation like this).

I somehow suspect it did not sell and was only put on the site in the first place for some publicity...

The guy who owned it USED to be listed as one of the three "principles" of the site, but all references to him have been removed.

Along with the poster.
Interesting.
Then, it probably hasn't been sold, I'll bet.

Could be but the timing seems overly convenient.  It was listed on Majestic posters for a while (albeit at $2 million) but presumably offers
could be made negotiated etc...

I'm sure.
Actors get rich by using agents that cover all the bases -- past, present and future..

I heard a rumour Sean put it up as a 99c auction while the owner was asleep, but set the time for 60 seconds, and used gavelsnipe to bid.
Leo asked him to burn it, so his was the only one in private hands, and Sean said he did. But somehow Christies have one in their next auction.
Thats what I heard anyway.

Actually, since the day the site went live there have only been two people listed on the site.
Originally there was going to be a third party involved, but that person didn't quite have the same vision as Peter and I and is no longer associated with the site.

Dang it Ari, I told you not to go blabbing away to everyone.  ;)

Actually, the poster is in negotiations right now.
It has not sold as of yet, but I expect a sale to be forthcoming shortly - it most likely will not be a new world record (sorry for all the sideline cheerleaders), but I will make an announcement if/when anything is finalized.

absolutely. I will give you my very best rate  :)

And on a side note - one of the great things about Movieposterexchange.com is that we do not require exclusivity when you list an item for sale on our site.
That is, you are free to still take it to shows, show it in your store, advertise it on a milk carton or whatever (just not at a price lower than advertised on MPE).
We just ask that you go back in and remove the listing if something like that happens.

So if an item you were looking at on the site disappears, it doesn't mean that something sinister has happened, there could be a simple explanation.

This was posted to MOPO by another member, this morning:

"Anyone wishing to know the whereabouts of the Metropolis three-sheet (& Movie Poster Exchange's former "silent" partner, Ken Schacter) should go to  http://www.midsystems.com ."

Per this article, Ken Schacter was the buyer of the Metropolis three-sheet back in November, 2005 from the London-based Reel Poster Gallery:

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/163400000-movie-poster-highlights-appeal-of-art-deco-classic-515505.html)

It sounds like this bankruptcy issue is a little "hairy," with allegations of items having been secreted away to others, for "safekeeping," as well as alleged fraudulent transfers and sales of property.
