It says "Limited Edition Hand Pulled Lithograph by the Re Society 27" x 41" for $30.

It's listed on the Home Page.

It may be a mistake but that's what it says.

S2 produced two versions of their lithos. The one series was more economical, so to speak.

That's why it isn't just the Phantom that is 30.00, but a whole series, including non-film images, in the link I posted above.

They simply cut and pasted the same description for both versions, and that, IMO, should be re-written, to differentiate the "economy model." Anyone reading it would/could assume that the 30.00 version and the 287.00 version are one in the same.

What is interesting tho, is when one looks at the URLs for each set, the less expensive are in the url with "poster" written as part of the  name, whereas the $$$$ versions are in the "relithographs" URL/link.

Somebody is offering a mismatched three sheet S2 recreation for $350:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261290940665

JackGallery is also offering it and it looks mismatched as well:

http://www.jackgallery.com/index.php/quickview/index/view/path/schulz-neudamm-metropolis

Many three sheets are mismatched but surely they did not deliberately print these mismatched?

could just be poor photography technique

This actually looks fine. If you shift the bottom panel 1/2 inch higher, it comes into alinement, eh?

Does the seller not realize these are supposed to overlap?

No the gold tone is clearly different.  The bottom and top panels of three sheets in fact rarely match, which is one of the reasons I didn't collect them early on.  But I would expect S2 to have printed them in the same gold tone. I've sent an email asking for an explanation and will pass it on if they answer. (They've been in bankruptcy so it's unclear who is running the show now.)

Apart from the alignment - which yes would be solved by the overlap - there is a clear colour discrepancy.

So wonder if that's taking separate photos of each part and then lining them up or if it's a printing issue...

Mel, Jack Solomon died in 2012. S2 was sold, or more to the point - the assets were sold

The owners are a completely different gallery and they also apparently bought the name as well as the stock and the printing presses

they're down the street from my home. I hope I can remember to drop over there tomorrow

A side by side comparison of the S2 recreation of the Cleopatra OS printed in 2000 (l) vs. the original OS from 1917 (r). The differences in color and slight variations in design can be seen, when put together.

Even with the decided, minor differences , the S2 Group had a very talented group of artists to create these modern versions  clap clap:

Placing this post here, too, for any that were wondering or might be interested in these re-creation prints:

"A quick Google search produced this find. It seems that the original S2 lithographs are still being produced withe the same presses and attention to detail.

The new company is called Rue Royale Fine Art and their site (and store of various poster prints) can be found here:

http://www.rueroyalefinearts.com/

This part of their site might most appeal to some members here:   thumbsup.gif

The Scottsdale Art Group is liquidating all the S2s at relatively cheap prices:

More info here:

http://scottsdaleartgroup.com/artists/movies-collectable-fine-art-lithographs/

All of the one sheets are $139- I bought 3 so far - less than they're selling for used at EMP:

The quality is phenomenal here's one of mine framed:

So I like these S2s so much I bought 12 for $125 each.  I'll rotate them monthly in one frame. ($1500 is a lot of money but I'm sure I can resell them for at least that much if I get tired of them. The cost of the original MPs is $1 million+!)

OK as an old (original, smelly, rough and "saved") paper lover first and foremost I am guilty

...but somehow Mel you make it just a little less despicable.
