QUAD VS. ONE SHEET
« on: March 11, 2011, 04:48:01 PM »
My favorite image from the BATMAN BEGINS campaign was this simple, dramatic poster, produced in both formats.
Which do you like better, and why?

Oooh, good thread Brude, I just posted in another thread about how a thread like this might be fun.

For my tastes, I think this is an example where both work well - the One Sheet portrait nicely frames the chasm of light, however the quad has more of that dramatic mist around Batman. And I like all the black in the quad, it fits nicely with the subject.

i think when comparing the quad v one sheet, just compare the warriors uk quad with the 1 sheet... the quad is by faaar superior..

I like the quad for the exact opposite reason, give more "room" to the feeling of the cave environment.

My feelings exactly.
On the quad, the Batcave appears cavernous.
On the one-sheet, it feels like he's in the bottom of a well.

But would Batman build a cave big enough to allow for dramatic smoke effects..? hmm

I prefer the one sheet for Batman, the quad for Judge Dredd (though that movie and all of its posters probably belong in the garbage), and I'd call Big Trouble in Little China a toss up.  The rest are not loading properly on my computer.

Here is one of my favorite comparisons.  The Princess Bride.  While the Alvin art is nothing shabby, the only thing it really conveys about the movie is a sense of fantasy.  But the movie is full of action and adventure with a fantasy theme centering around love.  The quad says to the viewer, "you want to see this movie," while the one sheet does not.  Just my thoughts.  And all this reminds me, does anyone know what artist is responsible for this piece?

Thanks.  You know what you did.

I think both The Princess Bride and Nightmare on Elm Street are both excellent examples of a Quad done right.

Batman begins is a toss up for me.

I prefer the John Alvin (a la Maxfield Parrish) one sheet for PRINCESS BRIDE over the quad.
I think BIG TROUBLE is a toss-up, but I prefer the Bysouth one sheet (below) to the quad, with the same art.

and I also think THE THING is a toss-up, but prefer the Australian one sheet to the Quad, with the same art.

I'm gone for two hours and you already started the cage match!  Here are two more... and keep in mind quads and 1-sheets are roughly the same size, unlike many of the pictures we are posting.

Harry, I would take the quads in every case.

I only have four quads but I do prefer my Tombstone and Reservoir Dog quads to the 1sheets that I do NOT own....yet.  8)
