For you maybe... Ghibli, like most anime, is over rated crap.
I think it is a mistake to lump together all animated works from a given country into one word to begin with, yet alone dismiss all the works in this unfortunate category as 'crap'.
I would agree that the traditional 'anime' is mostly bad: Gundam, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Oh my Goodness!...you know, stuff that kids read in a Hot Topic wardrobe who sit on the floor in Barnes and Noble sipping on their Mountain Dew Code Red they sneaked in the store...those are usually terrible, but people like it for whatever reason.
I personally like most of Miyazaki's work, namely Totoro and Spirited Away. I feel that his creativity and story telling transcend most of the unfortunate stereotypes other work from his country gets labeled with. My daughter and wife really enjoy Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, and it has been fun watching those with them. Ponyo is half a good movie (first half), while Howl's Moving Castle was mostly disjointed and not sure the fleeting moments of creativity are worth a viewing.
I would recommend some Satoshi Kon stuff, namely Tokyo Godfathers...
Again, nothing perfect, just enjoyable, and most certainty warrants a better personal resolve than a brush stroke adjective of crap. IMO.
Here's a question - what would be you least wanted combination? I think that a The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 by Horkey would be high on my list of do not want...
I would almost say that TSOTTP 2 by Horkey would be worth it to see everyone on EB immediately drool over it and put it in their for sale thread a few days later.
But, a Daniel Danger COBS AND ROBBERSONS comes to mind..
