Promotional posters "No time to die"
« on: October 26, 2021, 04:10:21 PM »
Hello .
They have told me that they have given promotional posters in the first passes of the film. These are of 4 different styles, they have nothing to do with the typical movie poster. They tell me that one is like a casino chip, another like a playing card(naipe), does anyone have these signs?

If he doesn't reply, you should send a message to forum member Simes.  He is our Bond expert and probably already owns 100 copies of each styles.

 :)  Thanks Thierry!

I am guessing Tania, you are based in the US?  I am in the UK and the poster output and organisation thereof here has been hopeless.  The designs have dug deeper into the murky subterranean depths of the hopeless than even I thought was possible.  And, there wasn't a final, with credits, poster.

Here in the UK, I have not seen any promo posters other than the one offered at the beginning of the lockdown - this of Bond peering around the Cuban building.  I have not seen any promo posters for sale on eBay.com either.  I have however seen on eBay.com, one example only, of a full credits US 1 Sheet. Same design of Craig looking as though he is holding on to a walking stick, but this time with blue titling.  And since then, no other examples have surfaced.

Sorry, the number of words responding to your question in diametric contradiction to there being any answers.

I have already located the 4 posters. This afternoon I publish photos. You all have a round stamp that says "Amateur artwork poster competition".

I had to do my research.
These posters come out of a contest powered by MGM. This is link:

https://007.talenthouse.com

What I do not know in which countries they have been given away, in Spain for sure, the problem with these posters that when they were given away in the cinema people are not careful and they are a little wrinkled, I have been able to get a few and I will sell some by Ebay.

I am surprised the results did not make the people with the budget sit up and jettison Empire Design and their, serially woeful efforts.

I do have one question about the 4 posters above. Who the Hell picked these??? If you look through the Talenthouse submissions there are way, WAY better efforts than what was chosen. The black, white and red poster of Craig made up from the titles of his films are alright but the other 3 are just not that good. Another missed opportunity. And yes I agree with Simes, dump Empire Designs immediately. They are the kings of floating head, photoshopped to death dreck.

I think it's interesting that you guys put the blame at Empire Designs doors for what you consider poor posters. Do you not think it's more to do with the Producers of the Bond films who commission these types of campaigns to begin with. I think your dissapointment is directed at the wrong people.

Yes, that is an argument.  But Producers hire talent that they think is right for the job.  If it is deemed a director has not done a good job of directing the film, is it the fault of the director, or the producer?  Simplistically speaking of course.

I think the only time I have 'blamed' the producers for a Bond directorial effort was in hiring Michael Apted to direct The World is not Enough, a film that is so fantastically boring that it really should have been edited down to a 30 minute short to give it any sense of hope.  In Apted, while I can see their thinking, he was just so hopelessly out of his depth in every single way.

And so Producers and Marketing companies.  All this is handed off to designers by the studio, no?  In this case MGM and Universal.  What shout do the producers have here?  I would have thought with Michael Wilson's interest in and fascination for photography, he would, and should, have stepped in and say, Enough.  Maybe he has, and has been told to leave well enough alone.  Maybe he hasn't.  Maybe he thinks the campaign is just fine the way it is.  Dunno.

And so while we do not know the players between such contracts, until convincingly educated, I will leave it at the door of Empire.

I do of course bow to your Bond knowledge but I would be amazed if Empire had final say on these designs. Knowing how the Producers/Craig have such tight control on most, if not all aspects of the production, (Daniel Craig having to sign off on the theme tune for example) I can't believe they don't have a hand in the marketing campaign. Now I'm not defending the quality of the recent campaigns, or the clear lack of reverence for what came before, but I can't honestly believe Empire get final say on such an important franchise. If they do then I assume the Producers don't care or don't need to care how their films are marketed.

Thank you but, rest assured of this I have no knowledge.  In this case, mine is all presumption.

My hopes were that Eon would have a say but, looking at the films they produce and the disparity between them and the bloody promotional artwork, all I am supposing is that they don't.  In terms of Final Say, I am again supposing this is a Universal Pictures decision.  Again, all presumption.

Hopefully the times would return when each country made its own poster.

Hopefully the times would return when each country made its own poster.

With the poster being replaced by digital imagery on video screens, I doubt that will ever happen.
