April 2021
« on: April 01, 2021, 10:18:01 AM »
While I wait for my large Italian 4F for Horror of Dracula to arrive from Heritage, here are some recent purchases I just received in the mail: all Italian posters from the 1960s, led by a moody (and quite rare) 4F for a Hammer title, Phantom of the Opera. The Brain is yet another version of Curt Siodmak's book, Donovan's Brain, which has been translated to the screen more times than I can remember, this one directed by Freddie Francis of Hammer and Amicus fame.  Die, Monster Die is an early adaptation of Lovecraft's famous story The Colour Out of Space for AIP, with Karloff in the twilight of his long career.  The Italian version of this poster adapts Reynold Brown's original design quite well and improves on it a bit, imho.

Finally got my last German Jimmy Dean A0 quer (118x84cm), GIANT. This one
was created for the 1960 release, only Dean's first two films had A0 quer posters
in Germany back in 1956... (also attached)

Okie - Aventura En Rio. I put it to 475 then left it for someone who I was sure would look after her - I am really glad you got it.

That was a really good auction for Mexican posters.

I will take good care of my own Ninon Sevilla purchase - COQUETA, which is also in remarkable condition and I am really happy with.

Regards

Ian

Thanks, Wim, Steve, Ealing, and T! Ealing, I hope you find a copy, too; your Coqueta win is quite nice.

One more goodie I got in Bruce's auction: the Dracula Polish Program.  I really like the images on this one!  Okie

I just received my Italian 4F (style B) of Horror of Dracula from the latest Heritage Signature sale, and it's even more spectacular in person.  The scale and colors are really impressive.  I think I like it even more than the style A that I already own, which I unrolled on the floor next to it in the last 2 pics for comparison.  As a Hammer fan, I'm very happy with this pick up.

Yeah, I think Style B wins it, ever so slightly :)

Both are incredible, and the colors look like they were printed yesterday! Lucky guy.

Are you planning on framing them?

They're both great - the Style A gives more of a narrative but the Style B is more striking.

I was going to frame Style A, but now that I've got the other one, I'm thinking of framing Style B instead.  The framer I used to send my posters to closed his shop due to the pandemic, so now I have to find another good one.

Redman, I put them on my kitchen floor and took the pic from standing up on the staircase, lol.

Antoine:  Very nice, gigantic Drac!  Sometimes the floor is the only place to unroll the big ones.  There's an older thread on APF that is "What's on your floor!"

Ratzkywatzky: Stooges, too!  Fun card.
