Hello My Name is Jojo
« on: March 07, 2020, 06:23:12 PM »
Hello There

My name is Jojo and I recently joined the forum.
This wealth of information on all kinds of movie posters looks for sure promising :)

I’m particularly interested in lenticular posters. Hopefully there are likeminded folks among you.
So far I only have the “The Lost World” lenticular, a signed “Lilo & Stitch” poster and about
to purchase the “ID:4” home video release lenticular and, even though not a movie poster,
the “Abraham Obama” art by Ron English.

If anyone might know where to get the half-sheet that Kodak did for the December 98’ release
of Disney’s “Mighty Joe Young” remake, I’d be sooo freakin’ happy 😃
And if he or she would be open for an offer, I’d be above and beyond!

Anyhow that’s that.

All the best

Be careful with lenticulars.  They really need to be in upmost condition, because heat and humidity can destroy them very fast.  I think I own a few... like Jurassic Park 2 and Jurassic re-release, Lilo, E.T., The Day After Tomorrow (not sure that's the title) and a few others I can't remember.  I stopped collecting them for the reasons mentioned, but I know some people love them.  Do they still make them, or is it a thing of the past?

Welcome JoJo!

Here's an APF link to a lenticular I recently got.  It's 1950s back when they were made of glass!  My best, Okie

Yeah, they sure are sensitive as hell but I had my “Lost World” framed by a
guy who specializes in light frames and overall illuminated advertising.
The glass blocks out all U.V. and there’s no heat development from the led panel
in the back. In there it still looks awesome. But the transport is what worries me
most of course.

The Jurassic Park 3D IMAX lenticular I’m also still after :-) But “Mighty Joe Young” first...

I saw a picture of this glass lenticular earlier and yes, it looks stunning,
but prolly even more fragile then the other ones I can imagine.
If you like the pre-1980 lenticulars, there’s a German seller on eBay who currently sells the smaller
“Ben Hur” sign for an okay price:

As to if they still make lenticulars:
Scarcely. Latest one I can think of is for Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man” in 2019.
But then again I feel like they were always scarce. Hopefully they will become more
common place in the future but I honestly doubt it. Maybe in veeery small quantities,
like the one for “On Stranger Tides” in 2011 and for special occasions and maybe some
specifically as collector’s items but not for the official launch.

Hi Jojo and welcome to the forum!

The  Lost World one is a really good one! I love a good lenticular poster, but only have a couple (for Ring 2 and a small cinema giveaway for The Dark Knight). Jason has a great collection of them, although he needs to update his photos in this thread - http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,7422.0.html

It’s interesting that artists outside movie posters are using them recently. As well as that Ron English, I know Eelus and Pejac both had lenticular releases over the last couple of years too.

That’s true lenticular printing transcends the genres :)
I just checked out “Not everything is so Black and White” by Eelus
it looks awesome! Has a graphic novel or Manga vibe to it.

JoJo, I do have several lenticulars myself. I have JURASSIC PARK 2: THE LOST WORLD (which is brilliant) and others (THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, THE DAY TOMORROW, MONSTER HOUSE, etc). I think my favorite one is for THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D. The film was lame, but the lenticular is awesome.

I've never seen the MIGHTY JOE YOUNG half sheet you mentioned. Good luck with that.

Have you posted any of your stuff yet? We'd love to see it if you haven't.

Again, welcome aboard.
