December 2018
« on: December 06, 2018, 11:59:12 PM »
Picked up a framed photo of Alfred Hitchcock the other day from the same little shop. Initially, another girl had found it and was carrying it around. Even from a distance, I saw that the patina of the paper looked like it could be an original, but wasnt sure.

About 10 min later, I watchd her go back and set this frame back in the bin, that had lots of other stuff in it. So I walked over and snagged it. When I got back from lunch, I opened the frame, and, sure enough, the photo was stamped on the back by Paramount Photo Service, in Michigan.

WXYZ was and is a radio / TV station in Detroit. So Hitchcock was there, doing an interview or Q&A with the guy, also in the pic. The photo isnt dated, but Im guessing from AH's appearance --maybe the late 1950s-early 60s? I'll try and dig more about it. I boosted the contrast on the one pic, to make the stamp easier to read, as it was done in a lighter blue ink.

Im guessing you know more about mics, since that's what first caught your eye? LOL  ;)

Any idea about the age / era of that mic?

forget the suits. Hitch is clearly still looking youthful and this image is almost certainly from the late 40s

Ive looked for maybe other comp shots that were taken of Hitch and the DJ/MC but have found none, so far. It shouldnt be too tough, knowing the station. I could even email them now and ask who this former employee was. Most stations -- radio and TV -- keep track and archive who their radio and TV personalities were.

Thank you. The price was right so i got it. The Rocky Horror has some issues so I may want to upgrade down the road. The Lawrence of Arabia has a bunch of issues but seems to have been well restored so I don't mind.

As I get back into collecting movie posters, I am finding that a poster with a bunch of flaws that has been nicely backed on linen and has had great restoration work doesn't bother me at all. If the end result looks like a nearly new looking poster that works for me!

The movie is terrible, but this Thai Jaws: The Revenge poster looks great. I don't know if I'll ever get a Thai version of the original Jaws movie so this might have to do.

Cool poster. What's the artist's name? Looks like it begins with an "N?"

It looks like 'Neet' to me but I'm not positive.

This is great, Eric160634!  Another tiny huge Jaws in the background: double the Van Jawage!

Okie

Are you sure this is for the movie Jaws: The Revenge (1987)?  It looks a lot like the poster for "L'Ultimo Squalo", an Italian Jaws rip-off from 1980.  Here's the French version.

Antoine - I'm afraid you might be right. The eBay listening said that it was for Jaws: The Revenge but you're right that the artwork appears to be from L'Ultimo Squalo. I'll have to take this up with the eBay seller.

And that sure looks like James Franciscus on the Thai poster (and who starred in the Italian, JAWS rip-off flick). Michael Caine was in JAWS: THE REVENGE.

Hey, Warren Oates too, Jeff!  I don't recall watching this movie, though the cast is really interesting.  Also, your poster has some great action!  Okie

I'm not a big "western" fan, Okie, but the action, and movement that Soubie created in the poster is what pulled me to it (and as you also noted).

The US stuff is really mediocre, imo, by comparison.

Got this for doing a favour, very scarce German 1951 first release. Probably less than 10 copies left...

Just got this one in the mail today, it's been on my list of 1950s sci-fi posters to get for a while.
