Storing 8.5 x 11 for viewing?
« on: July 20, 2018, 12:29:53 AM »
Probably a weirder question but I have a significant amount of 8.5 x 11 sized posters and intend to acquire more. Would a large binder with acid-free archival quality protectors and some kind of backing to support be an appropriate way to conserve and store?

That's the way I do it, BV.  I put them in Mylar bags for that size to give them sturdiness, and then put them into art folders.  Okie

B_V, what are these 8.5 x 11 inch size posters you have?

Are they stills? Lobby cards?  Or a flier of some kind?

Can you post a pic of one?

I have 25 of these 1970 to 1972 Smarteen - anti-drug posters/fliers. The whole series that I've found (96?) in total are 8.5 x 11 save for one larger over-sized variant.

Sounds like a perfect way to store them. A binder set up where additional sleeves could be added. And withe these posters the size of a piece of standard size paper, I would think you would have a large number of options to choose from, too. :)

I don't think a binder set-up would bend them at all would it? Just enjoy looking at them from time to time.

Im sure there are binders with archival backing boards and mylar type sleeves made in this size for people who want to collect and store/preserve other kinds of documents, 8x10 stills, letters etc. Something that would almost look like a photo album, with hard covers, too, so that it keeps things from bending or getting damaged.

I'm going to take a look at a few craft stores near my place of employment in a bit. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks! I actually had some of the Avery ones at the office at work to check out and try they'll work great. Would you recommend backing them in the clear protectors?

Those poly sleeves are rather heavy duty and once your pieces are inside (and then with those inside a hard cover, 3 ring binder, I think you'd be OK without backing boards.
