Simple Vote SURVEY: Is it ROLLED or is it UNFOLDED?
« on: February 20, 2016, 05:01:21 PM »
Okay.

here's the deal

I have a warehouse full of posters.
many of these posters are rolled modern era posters. They were produced and (for the vast majority) issued rolled, in tubes of 25 or 50 to the distributors

Seriously, these posters have never been 'folded'
so are they 'unfolded' as one site describes them, or are they 'rolled as issued'?

this has nothing to do with posters that had previously been folded and are now flattened and then rolled (or not flattened & man do I hate those rolled/foldededs that never flatten out)

Vote
it's your right as a citizen!

"Rolled," to me, means NEVER having been folded, literally from the time they came off the press.

Your rolled never folded posters are called rolled, I don't get this thread or poll!

Now, is the following a rolled or a folded poster? Or is the term Rich mentioned more appropriate?:

foldededs

An interesting slightly off topic discovery I made while researching this issue for Rich... which method do you use?:

Unfolded implies it was folded at some point. To echo others, unless they were folded at some point, how were they stored? I mean if they were issued rolled.....

I don't think it does. On the contrary, it implies an anti-folded poster, which was the status quo for so long. So today new releases are all unfolded posters.  You want to roll them up have at it...

If the posters from the studio was sent to the theatre rolled, then the poster we get our hands on can be called:

"Rolled-un-rolled-rolled"

I say ROLLED, but I dont like it.
Unfolded is better, but not right either.

Flat/Never folded.
Rolled/Never folded.

is better.

Rolled.  Today, posters are rolled.  It is the norm.  The same poll 40 years ago and I would have answered unfolded.

more specifically Ari, the issue is whether 'unfolded' is the correct terminology for posters that have never been folded

unfolded implies said item was previously folded, which is not usually the case for where the term is in use.

unfolded= an item that was previously folded.

I think any unrolled poster will have some degree of risidule roll, so can't be called flat. The answer is to provide a grading system to the degree of unroll, for example:

"C-9 unrolled"

agree, but rolled is also incorrect (if it isn't rolled, just flat)

and Steve, OK, so rolling can never be completely reversed?
Could be true.

Can we just agree to FOLD every poster and forget about it?

let's create a new term for that, we'll call it 'Steve-rolled'

Do they still produce folded posters?  No, so theres no need to make that same distinction today.  You don’t need to say they are rolled, they’re just posters, printed flat and shipped rolled because that’s the only way to do it.  The only reason there was any need for a distinction in the first place was to differentiate the standard folded versus the more uncommon unfolded.

yes, they do

Some posters have hard folds like one sheets, and some posters are bent over like 6 sheets.

A bent over poster is preferable to an unfolded poster is preferable to a folder poster

So some posters should be described as having been bent over

I think the term for those is that they have been Zed-ed

A poster can't become unfolded.  Once folded you'll always be a folded poster. "Previously folded" is fine, but "unfolded" to define a folded poster that's been rolled for a while I think is problematic.

...nehoo...

Does a poster that was folded but now separated/torn off along all the folds into a patchwork of seperate panels/pieces have a folded status of folded poster, unfolded poster, previously folded poster or flat poster?

it has a status as a restoration project for Dario, turning each 1/8 panel into a complete poster all by itself, so that 8 collectors looking for a Frankenstein one sheet can now fill that hole in their collection when only a single poster is found under the floorboards of a home in upstate New York
