Most of the veterans have probably seen these vids, but those newer to the hobby of paper collecting might find this interesting. The Lautrec and Mucha art deco vids are absolutely amazing...

Good find Brude some interesting vids on there.

I am hoping this is the right place to post these, I have been going through some of my Quads as I seem to have lost my Nightmare on Elm st quad. Anyway found these carnival/circus posters from the 30's.
-
The colors on these British circus posters really grab you. Any backstory you can share on these, Paul? Like age, and size (last one, bumper cars). Very nice stuff.
-
As far as I know they are all 30's, I bought a few from a guy who did some work at a printers back in the 80's, and was given some by the owner who had them laying around in a stock room. They are all 40x30 Quad size, even the bottom one is a vertical Quad. They were generic posters, so the spaces are for the names and locations to be added by who ever bought them, hence these are blank as they were never used. Which is a shame as I would of liked the town name etc on them. Mind this sort of poster was pasted up, so I doubt any exist with writing on.

So is this the holy grail of circus posters? Heritage sold this one for 1500. Are there more expensive ones?

I'd say that circus poster sold at that price due to the crossover giant ape appeal!

This poster is certainly up there of collectible circus posters.
I paid a bit more than that (from a bricks & mortar store) for the below french 2 panel (63" x 94"), circa 1968. Older circus posters are generally more valuable, but I like the more modern looking stuff like the below.

Admin can shove this in the right section, not sure which it is best suited in...
I have been quite taken with a couple of circus posters that have come up recently, like most things my taste is always evolving and widening (must be another phase I am going through).
Posters like this one from the 30s that sold at Heritage lately have really caught my eye

Can anyone point me to a good site that will give me a better understanding (read gallery) - I may pursue this line or not, of course I need another sub-obession like a hole in the head, but what the hell...here for a short time, may as well be a fun time.

T just loves posters like this. He may act like they're of little interest to him, however T might crack and give you some if you post more images of these happy smiling fellas

That'd be the reason NOT to collect clown posters (a) I like to frame my 'special' posters (b) Coulrophobia is not that uncommon (yes I had to look that up) - not that I have it but we do get young kids staying here from time to time...

Did you know that 99% of clowns hate kids
In my previous life on the road i did spend some time in grease paint
One day me and a friend where sent into town in full clown makeup to hand out advertisement leaflets to the public
It was a hot day and neither of us really wanted to spend time handing out leaflets and when we came across the local Macdonalds restaurant we instantly decided it was lunch time.
I was in a bright yellow tuxedo and wearing a red wool wig with big red shoes, the resemblance to a certain Ronald was uncanny, so i approached the counter and informed the lady that my uncle Ronald said we could have anything we wanted on the house, it worked and we both got a free lunch ;D
While we where eating we noticed they had a bench with a statue of our "uncle" where people could sit and have their picture taken, so i decided it would be funny to sit real still on the opposite end of the bench to the statue. After about 5 mins a woman walked in with her 2 young girls who were about 6 and 8 years old , she ordered her meals and then noticed the bench and instructed her kids to sit between the clowns for a photo. As soon as she said "cheese" i jumped up and yelled "BOO!!" both the girls on the bench screamed and proceeded to piss themselves. Their mother had to take them into the toilets to clean them up and we took that as our queue to leave ;D
No doubt i am personally responsible for 2 cases of Coulrophobia 8)

Does anyone have any info on obtaining or even any potential value of original release posters for the Cirque du Soleil shows? I can find little info and even the official Cirque site store doesn't offer posters from any of their shows, current or older.
Certain sites like Moviegoods and Moviepostershop only have newer reprints for sale. Even ebay had little to show, as far as originals go.
When in Los Angeles, they set up their tents and stands down at the Santa Monica Pier. Always amazing and magical performances to watch, especially at the water's edge like that. thumbup
Thanks all. :)
-
No, but my mother went here in perth last week.
Should have asked her to steal one for you.

A circus memorabilia collector just now sent me a poster in action of this poster in my collection. Click the poster to see other angles of it on the floor.

Nah, some dbag kept out bidding me lol. What irritates me is that I think I have been in a bidding war with that person before because that username seemed very familiar. Basically I lost all of them today.
My rule: If you outbid me, then you are a dbag and I will hate you forever haha.

Right on...
We hate dbags...

Whoaaaaa, nice posters Ari. You got quite a few of them.
-
Apart from the African one that was in Albany (western australia) which I pulled off a shop window myself, the rest I bought in one lot off ebay years back.
I wanted a few, these are not huge and fit in a large sized art folio thing with plastic sleeves I can flip through. (I keep belgians in a similar folder)

I can certainly understand why.
Tho even as is, it would look wonderful were it framed and on display. The art has a very balanced look to it, I guess is what Im meaning.

What year is that piece from, Paul?
-
Not sure of the exact year, but the 30's Jeff.
-
Bravo!!
What does the little bit of info say, down on the right, bottom corner border?
-
DES No-802
Must be one of the codes, as they had many designs for Circus, Panto, Fairs, kind of posters... As they were not just a run, but could have printed off many at different intervals as required..
-
Thanks, Paul. Good info, as always. thumbsup.gif
