Title: Non poster paper
Post by: paul waines on March 24, 2010, 04:51:50 PM
I picked up a couple of Pressbooks the other day. I do like them as they give all the posters that were available for the release of the film, so always a good guide.

OMG, I own so many pressbooks.  I don't know why, I used to collect them.  Not anymore.  I must have at least 500.  Some are in France, some here.  I'll have to go thru them one day.  I haven't bought one in at least 15 years.

Picked up a rare campain book for Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein, last month. It was called Abbott & Costello meet the Ghosts in the U.K. on it's first release. Still looking for a couple of Front of house stills if anyone has any?

Well there's something you don't see every day.  Very nice pick up and congrats!  Would love to know if any "A&C Meet The Ghosts" poster(quad?) exists

Well acording to the Campain book they were most definitly available, with a host of other goodies. I do know on the second release in the U.K. the title was back to Frankenstein, so quite rare stuff. I do have some F.O.H. Stills I'll see if I can get a pic up.

Here's the poster and ad campaign, the Quad is in the upper right corner in the purple.

How about the Lugosi standie with the title on. They are also saying to have a fellow dressed like Lugosi with the title on his cape, walking up and down the street!! ah the good old days.
Also here are a couple of my F.O.H. stills. (Sorry for the flash on the pics)

Well, completely forgot about this section. Came across it while looking where to post these. No one will see them way down here, but what the hell.

These are promotional items sent out to co-inside with the films release...

All I know Ted, is these were issued to film exhibitors, as a way to get into the trade shows; And as paper could easily be forged they were given this "badge" for want of a better word.
I have been told that the number on the back related to a specific person. So I'm guessing it could be traced back to the owner who used it.

Looking at it my guess was it's early 30's, and such a shame that wasn't the date on the back as it may well have been for the Dracula Trade show.... eyeroll Oh well.

Paul, that is a great photo.  clap

When I worked at Universal, I was able to explore, on my own, Stage 28, go up the stairs behind the opera boxes to get to the various levels, including the Infamous Box 5. It is something to see. From what I gather, all of the original theater seats were removed long ago (that level is actually covered by a floor so that it is on level with the outside doors).

Here are a couple more current shots of the same box, that is in your still. And where the floor currently is:

(http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4117/4824838168_d8d90110b7_z.jpg) (http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4061/4568734984_044f5904f7_z.jpg)

What is a real shame, is that grip crews often carelessly lean ladders or scaffolding against the plasterwork causing chips, breaks and cracks; I wish Universal would take a better stance with that, otherwise, it will continue to sustain damage.  :'(

This letter written by Marilyn Monroe, to Lee Strasberg, gives real emotional insight into how insecure and helpless she felt. To be auctioned, later this month by Profiles.

It reads:

"Dear Lee,

I’m embarrised [sic] to start this- but thank you for understanding and having changed my life - even though you changed it I still am lost - I mean I can’t get myself together - I think its because everything is pulling against my concentration - everything one does or lives is impossible almost. You once said, the first time I heard you talk at the Actors Studio that there is only concentration between the actor and suiside [sic]. As soon as I walk into a scene I lose my mental relaxation for some reason, - which is my concentration. My will is weak but I can’t stand anything. I sound crazy but I think I’m going crazy. Thanks for letting Paula [Paula Miller, Lee Strasberg’s second wife] help me on the picture she is the only really warm woman I’ve known. It’s just that I get before camera and my concentration and everything I’m trying to learn leaves me. Then I feel like I’m not existing in the human race at all.

Love,
Marilyn"

I found this in the box of Marisa Mell photos I bought last year.  I did my best to do some translation on the photo itself.  It appears to be one of her grade school report cards.  How cool is that? This really makes me think that I got some of Marisa's personal stuff.

I even tracked down her school where this probably came from did a blog post on it a while back... http://commonsensemoviereviews.blogspot.com/2013/02/marisa-mell-photo-memoir-entry-007.html

haha you're right Ted, scary.

As to size, no its small, I guess US Letter size (?) or fullscap, bigger than A1,

the round thing above "le grand secretaire" is stuck on and the signatures are signed, not printed, so its some sort of certificate or whatever, like YOU GRADUATED TO FREEMASONRY or something (perhaps).

yeah a seal, I couldnt think of the word, its gold I guess, but very dirty.
Has words and a pic of a person, Its very hard to make out, Ill try and scan it sometime to see what it is. I have a passing interest in freemason stuff, was actually asked to join once years ago but chickened out (I wouldnt have taken it seriously), I think they are kinda spooky. My grandfather was one for a while so ill show him when i see him.
The Postcard (in the other thread) of the FAT BOY, the photo of evil santa and this were $10 for the lot, so I was happy (cert is in a nice frame also).

My brother joined the Free Masons, about 15 yrs ago or so. Not sure why. And he claims he cant talk about their secret meetings or what they discuss. To me, its like a big whatever, in that case. For all i know, they get together and throw back a few pints and play a version of poker with Tarot cards!  cheers
