Great choice, Mel.
Ansin's work is far from the ordinary and, I think the absolute BEST of this new breed of poster print artists.
Man, his work is something else.

I finally took the plunge and forked out for his print of Moon on the secondary market (the variant, which has the silver moon). Cost a few £ but it was worth it, absolutely beautiful. I'm gonna get it framed up this year I reckon.

Sorry, but I gotta respectfully disagree with you on that one.  The real movie poster blows the Mondo poster away.

I have 'em both and prefer the Ansin print 'in the flesh'...just little things like the typography of the Moon title and the matt black over the glossy black of the film poster.

I think Ansin's print was based on an unused poster, here they are:

I bet the Ansin print is better .. but because its based on other artwork .. i dont look at it the same way .. So because of that I will probably never own one .. But his other stuffz is awesomeness!

FYI, print peeps and Ansin fans.

Martin just informed me that a few personal copies of the Mummy print will be available next Monday Oct. 17 at postersandtoys.com.

There will only be a few copies, but the Standard, Variant and Wood versions will be available.  They'll announce the sale opening on Monday on twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/Postersandtoys and http://twitter.com/#!/martinansin.

Just thought I'll keep you posted just in case!

Silver Metropolis still takes the cake, IMO.

Silver Bride and metallic Phantom are right there at the top, and by far.

I'm missing 3 that I don't really care for... reg Metropolis (sorry Ben, I think the gold is way better), variant Moon (bah!) and reg Scott Pilgrim (shitty movie, I'll stick to the variant).  If I see the reg Metropolis at a price I like, I may go for it, but I'm in not hurry.

I really like the line work in Lugosi's face.

I think the Dracula will creep up in price, but not before it takes a slight dip. The Wolfman was the same.
I'm loving the Dracula print, if I can get a variant I'll be very happy, biggest regret was selling my bronze Bride print wish I had kept both.
Siding with the silver Metropolis. I have both, the silver version stands out better and the glow in the dark is fantastic. I know the gold image is closer to the robot colour but as it was a BW film it fits better for me.
My signed Space Seed made it onto his blog!

Of all the artists to do these types of prints, I think he is by far the most talented, and if any were to retain or increase in value, I would expect them to be his prints.

I don't get the STOUT love, but it is all in the eye of the beholder I guess.

I am feeling really good about my prints (http://www.eatbrie.com/Mondo.htm) collection.  If only I sold...

Amazing.  There are none for sale on Expresso and there are kids who are willing to pay $1,000 cash (http://expressobeans.com/members/detail.php/123459/wanted).  I traded mine a few months ago for "Lost: The Crash" (Eric Tan), which is cool but is rapidly losing value.

So is Martin's version in the same league as the originals?

The final price was almost double the highest amount a regular Bride has gone for thus far.

Man, these silk-screened beanie babies keep going up and up...they have to bottom out sometime...right? RIGHT?!?

I don't know.  Seems more and more people are joining the fray.  Some of these people look back at what they missed since 2008 and raise the prices of specific pieces.  A lot will never take off.  It all depends on the title, really.  Obvious, Akira, Bride, Thing, Phantom, Robocop, etc... have all become classics in their respective genres.  They have defied time, and new fans are born every day.  I don't see them ever coming down.  Plateauing at some point, but not coming down.

An uneducated agreement. Even if the bottom falls out of the market for these, they where so cheap to begin with that Inflation alone IMO would at least get you your money back if you chose to sell..

But it is iconic.  Frankenstein, Dracula, King Kong... everybody knows about them.  You do not need to see the movies to become a fan in your 20s.  You can also read Mary Shelley, or Bram Stoker and become a fan.

Yep. Universal horror transcends the medium and its subjects are MUCH bigger than the movies they are in.

I haven't seen a substantial amount of the films that I have posters for, and I am ok with that.

I'm tipping they haven't read the books either.

I think I get what you are saying, but in my opinion it comes down to the fact that Ansin is a great talent, and this subject matter lends well to his style.
I think most people could care less that they own a Bride of Frankenstein print or a Phantom of the Opera print.  It's the fact that the prints are real stunners, and if you have to have a Mondo print, why not get some of the best...in my opinion of course.

No I take that back, I reckon he could make just about anything look great.

I was looking around for Ghost in the Shell prints and saw this one.

From the website: http://martinansin.com/index.php?/editorialads/ghost-in-the-shell/   (http://martinansin.com/index.php?/editorialads/ghost-in-the-shell/)

Screen printed poster for Mamoru Oshii's seminal 1995 sci-fi anime.
A variant printed on iridescent foil was sold with the ticket purchase to the Ghost in the Shell
25th Anniversary screening during MondoCon 1.

I think it's awful.  I used to love Martin's work, heck, I even helped him sell some of his stuff and got him a signed Stout he really wanted.  But he lost me when he added all these parallel lines to his artwork, and this is another example of that.

Such a far cry from his gorgeous Phantom of the Opera.  His masterpiece for sure that now seems like it was done by another artist.

I always thought his Phantom was such an amazing poster, too. Plus, I've loved the Chaney version of the film since I was a kid.

I should have tried to grab one when it was first released. I'm assuming the price for that poster is now thru the moon?

You know, I never check because I'm not in the market to sell, but your post prompted me to check EB.  I own both the reg and the var and it seems they're priced at $2k and $2.5k respectively, although there are only 100 of both combined, so they don't come up for sale very often.  Nothing extravagant, but certainly a nice upstick from the original price.  It's one of the best Mondo prints, imo.
