Sorry to slightly change the subject Chaps but... Mel, I wasn't comparing Quad for 1Sht, it was a generalisation... just because a poster of any kind has too much text, or blank space, doesn't mean it's valueless, or second rate.
Without looking anywhere, how would you rate/value these.

Here Paul, I fixed them for you :P

No, I like Paul's originals before Harry's 'fix-up.'
Those are two crackin' examples of type-only classics. Yee-haw! thumbup
-
I can still see too much art work Harry... ;)

Yes, those are terrific, BTW
-
heres a cute one...
ok this isnt a poster but a large snipe, I still like it
(http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff401/aririchards/Misc%20paper/P3160003.jpg)
Boring, but signed by Leatherface (the new one that is - not Gunnar Hanson - although I do have his autograph)
OK this REALLY isnt a poster but I might get it framed with my Blade Runner insert.

Nice posters, Paul. Love the DRACULA. thumbup
The only contribution I can make to this Text Only thread is this STAR WARS 'B' Teaser.
I haven't shot mine yet, so I borrowed this pic from Dave's Cinemasterpieces. I believe this one was sold, so I don't think Dave will mind. Mine is also folded with GAU logo and with less fold wear than this one....
I've been thinking of selling or trading it. I know this isn't the proper thread, but if anyone's interested, you know where to find me....
Ted,
I much prefer your B teaser to the other SW examples given. The spacing, variation in font sizes and amount of Empty, black background seems more evenly balanced, IMHO. Just a preference, of course.
Jeff
-
Yes, I agree.
It even has that great first line, "a long time ago..."
Hey, I'll swap it to you for that MR.WU. wynk

Ari wins! I think I will start framing some of my old University notes and start calling them "text only posters" ;)

Now that's the kind of stuff I would buy Harry.
How strange, this thread starts and some one includes this in with a few other posters I buy from them. Anyone any ideas about it?
-
Paul, that is a Damien Hirst design.
Keep it. Nice addition! ;D
-
I'm guessing he didn't go to Design College... ;) A good thing you young fellows are getting into this game. New stuff is not my forte.
-
Give it to me then! ;D

Here's another I own. Why? I'm not quite sure....
Certainly creative use of type, eh?

Probably more rare than the standard Quad for Drac has risen.

You wouldn't be referring to that LALD poster on sale on ebay recently now, would you!?
They're cool posters in that they are different.
When I was researching the year for them I could not find other images of them anywhere!

Wow, a double-sided daybill from "Outer hell."
It don't get no better than that. eyeroll2

I have two really cool World War II posters. In each case, a G.I. took the poster down from the wall and made entries on the back for each day for a couple of weeks, and then mailed them to their wives. Like Ari's the posters are completely covered with tiny writing (that you can easily read) on the back, and it gives a cool insight into how life was for G.I.s in Europe in WWII.
I thought about trying to track down the owner (or their children) but there are only first names and a few clues in the writing. I really should contact History Detectives on them, because with their resources they might well find the owners (if they found them worth taking on).
I will try to dig them out to take photos.

I HAVE A TEXT MOSTLY poster :-)
also i found that i have a all picture poster ishtar poster with just a camel on it being pulled by 2 people on the other poster the twin posters !!!!
-
This one Arrived today, I won't post in the Newly Acquired thread, there's too many nice one's in there at the moment.
It caught my eye as it's hand painted... it's Quad sized, and period (late60's/early 70's)paper. So these must have been printed as Blanks!! it then looks like a sign writer has done the wording on it. Strange how the text wasn't just printed onto the paper...
I know Cinemas had one off showings, but they also had local printers for one off jobs!! it must have cost more to have a sign writer do this... Most odd.

In the early years it was at film fairs, or Mail Order. ( Any one in the U.K. remember Teddy Green? ) Since then mostly the Inter-web, or through collector friends.
As I'm a tight Yorkshireman I don't like to pay top Dollar... ;)

This should be in the Disney, or animation thread as there is some animation in it; but it's quite at home here as well .....it's a Double Crown.

Thanks Brude, it's a standard quad size, printed on a hard type of plastic so it could be used outside in the London rain!

Probably the coolest text only poster I've seen.

Picked this up recently, I just love the history of a piece like this. The poster is from the re-release in 1960.
Soak up all that old British Cinema History, Newquay is a popular Holiday resort too.

Paul, since when would Leslie Caron's face be considered "text?" ;)
I think she would feel insulted. laugh1
Ps. I love the way her image was done on this quad, too. It looks like a silkscreen.

Well I can read her like a book.... ;)

A great movie with an all star cast Hollywood Canteen 1944. Scary part is that they only have a portion of all the famous entertainers of the day listed on the poster.

-
I do like that Hollywood Canteen.. :D
Jeff, is this meeting with your text only requirements.... ;)
I picked this up as I have the Quad, thinking it's British. Having measured it, it's 40 7/8' X 27 7/8...
I'm guessing U.S. now. Anyone have any ideas? There's no info at all on the poster..

"Text only" seems self explanatory to me. ;)
It has nothing to do with my requirements.
A cool poster, Paul. I like it, too. clap
This looks like it could maybe be a US broadside, locally printed in some town or city.

Hey Paul, Not a text image followup but here is the actual US OS for this film (Vice and Virtue). It's from 1963 and Catherine Deneuve is also in it. thumbup
It is a Gaumont-International Picture and was distributed by MGM. ;)

I picked up 12 of these, all different. I'm not going to post them in the latest thread with all those nice posters Chris is putting on.. ;)
As we've said before scarce, maybe the only ones left, but not worth much. These are Bus posters, or bills? They were used inside buses to advertise anything from pubs, clubs, toffee's and crisps, and yes even what was on at the local Cinema. All from the late 60's..

Don't underestimate value when Bond is involved! Good stuff Paul!
-
I never do Harry... ;)
That one is from 69, it was probably the year I saw both these, but at our local Cinema.
-
I really like them Paul, love that Leone quad.... ;)
-
Eastwood and Bond. Post em anywhere!
Great pick ups Paul.
-
Those are very cool, Paul.
If they were used inside of buses, how big are they?
cheers
-
May as well put these in here...

MAGDALENA is a really entertaining piece of German exploitation rubbish!
Just wonder why Brits and Americans always get their it's and its wrong?

They are about 8"x15" Ted. I know most Americans won't know how U.K. Buses looked, but if you watch Potter 3 - Prisoner of Azkaban. When Potter is on the bus, you can see some of these kind of ads above the side windows, in the corners near the roof... Maybe someone can post a pic?
-

My guess is We don't care... Yvonne is "Mrs punctuation", she goes off it if something is wrong like that. Me I do know the difference, but would only care if it was an essay or something. Us Northerners struggle to speak proper, and even spell right... ;) and all that punctuation just gets in the way..
-
Hopefully, you get the idea about the Inside the Bus posters from this pic.
(http://i590.photobucket.com/albums/ss348/frankenstein31_photos/insidebusposters_zpsc677da43.jpg) (http://s590.photobucket.com/user/frankenstein31_photos/media/insidebusposters_zpsc677da43.jpg.html)
-
A-hah!
Yes, we used to have something like that in the buses back then.
Don't know whether they do that anymore seeing as I haven't been on a bus in eons.
Nice paper, Paul. Very unique. cheers
-
Thanks Ted, and there's 12 different ones too..
I haven't been on a bus in 35 years either, wonder if they do still advertise inside..?
I do think some of these so called "lift-bills" that are being mentioned of late, maybe used on the outside of Buses too. on the front corners below the upstairs windows.
....Most get a size on those..

I think my obsession with collecting anything and everything 'Hoffman' related has hit a new low in my poster collection... These will never get displayed but the completest in me had to get them no matter how ugly they look.

Well done Gemma, I was going to bid on those myself.... I see he sent yours rolled too, mine were quite badly creased as he sent them rolled while folded......A big NO NO..
Mind your centre fold looks worse for wear... Do email him and confirm this is bad practice, I'll be posting pics of mine in the poor packing thread.
-
'Never get displayed,' GemGem?
Those quotes are worthy of wall space.
Well done.
clap clap
-
^ agreed! Those quotes make interesting reading!!!
-
Thanks guys. Very funny quotes - i suppose that's why i love the movie so much - very witty
Thanks Paul for not bidding!!! I think I would have had to hunt you down if you won (despite who ugly they are!) Yes I was annoyed when he told me they were going to be rolled but they are now out of the tube and will be placed folded and flat from now on.
