Anyone got some new paper to share?
-
11 days in and nada.... that's a first.
Maybe a tumbleweed is needed here. LOL GoOn.gif
-
I'll start: Wabash Avenue was released this month in 1950 and starred Betty Grable. I recently won this huge 36"x 59" Betty Grable enlarged photo from 1941 from I Wake Up Screaming. I wonder what it cost for a local theatre to make an enlargement like this in 1941? My best, Okie

I don't post my new gear on this thread because that's what my website is for and it would be redundant. I add stuff almost daily there, so you're welcome to check it out.
But in the spirit of this late thread, here are a couple I acquired recently.

I think most members who love posters are movie lovers too, from art films by Tarkovsky or Bergman or commercial movies which everyone enjoy and love, have just read the Endgame comments by Tob and Zorba, frankly I love Infinity War more but any Marvel fans who have followed the MCU for 11 years will be glad that we are part of the journey since the first Iron man movie ,and this is a worthy ending for phase one of MCU.

Amazing how they manage to cram all these characters in four different posters and still make them alluring.

I haven't posted anything for some time, but I was really to happy to get this one. It's part of a set of 8 and took me an awful lot of effort to get. Pretty happy now though.

Digital "painting" and the creation of art makes the subtle shading as simple as clicks on a mouse & keyboard, with all the amazing software out there today.

"The Big Carnival" is such a stupid title for Wilder's cynical classic I just had to get the snipe off to reveal the much more appropriate "Ace in the Hole"

Chris, I do dream of one day seeing a Southern Hemisphere dunny swirl! I want to seem well traveled, though I only know the word "dunny" from Mr. Dundee. Thanks again for showing off your southern swirlies. Okie

Like that mummy for sure.
Very cool Dumbo one. Hadn't seen that one before. Thanks for sharing!

I really like the ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT daybill. From the looks of it Kaaren Verne really seems to dig Bogie.

A recent purchase, this poster for The Man from Planet X has been on my wish list for quite a few years. I kept coming across linen backed copies, so I was glad to finally get my hands on an unrestored one. I always loved that image.

I like it, too! Congratulations on a "raw" example, Antoine! A great bubble headed space helmet for sure! Okie

I haven't seen the movie, so it's hard for me to comment on the poster, but I love its look.

Man from Planet X (1951) was directed by the great Poverty Row auteur Edgard G. Ulmer, who was also responsible for 1934's The Black Cat (arguably the best pairing of Karloff and Lugosi), as well as the fantastic Detour (1945), widely considered one of the best film noir ever made. This very atmospheric movie is somewhat unusual for a 1950s sci-fi flick in that the visitor from Planet X is initially benevolent (that is until the evil human scientist tries to exploit the alien for his own nefarious intent), which was rare in movies of that decade (the other notable exception to that rule is The Day the Earth Stood Still, which also came out in 1951). It was shot in 6 days, and Sally Field's mom Margaret Field plays the female lead. Paper for this film is relatively rare and can be hard to find unrestored.

just got back from Cinevent and brought some friends with me

Antoine, if I were to say "I want these 5 images from Siegfried" these 3 would be among them. Siegfried is one of my favorite films, having seen it the first time when I was 10 or 11. Personally, I think the framing & composition of Siegfried meeting the Dragon is the best one, but the superb imagery of any is off the charts. the kill scene is #35, what a task it would be trying to put this set together
by the way, Man From Planet X is great
-
thanks Jeffe
I agree, Richie, very cool! I'm glad you found these great photos. I would have snatched them up as well. I thought I might see you at Cinevent this year, but alas I'm traveling too much for work these weeks. Congrats again! Okie

I've bought both the one sheet and three sheet recently for the 1947 rerelease of Black Friday. The movie is just okay, though I really like Karloff's image with the hypodermic needle on the posters. Also, from the Bela Lugosi Blog, here is a link to the May 5, 1940, newspaper ad from the New Orleans Times Picayune not far from where I live. https://beladraculalugosi.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/black-friday-the-times-picayune-may-5-1940.png
Here's the three sheet:

thanks Okie. nice Black FRiday

Super jealous of the Man from Planet X. Even in my current state that's one I'd like to pick up once everything else is off-loaded, coincidentally, Detour is too.
The #2 Siegfried is definitely the one. Very nice.

I think the composition of that photo is worthy of the greatest photographers
unfortunately, I can find no credit for the photographer and will have to see if there is a mention in teh credits when I next watch the film

It is a greatly composed shot indeed, the way the trees frame it is straight out of a fairy tale book illustration.
