I was very fortunate to see Lauren Bacall when she was about 57 years old performing on Broadway circa 1981 in her Tony Award winning performance in Woman of the Year. It was mind blowing for me to see her, an icon of Hollywood glory, perform from just a few feet away. I went by myself because my friends bailed on me to see a different show. I was sure glad I stuck with my plan that night and saw Bacall. She was completely on her game that night! I've always wanted a great movie poster with her prominently featured. Little did I know that poster would be Italian and a giant 55" x 75" beauty with art by Martinati. Fresh from the most recent Heritage auction, here is the 4 Foglio for Confidential Agent. Please show your great posters of Bacall here, too. Okie

The one that started it all.
And strangely enough, until about 5 minutes ago I never realized this image was a publicity still where they chopped Bogie's head off and put another shot of him in it's place.

Really nice to see your pretty Aussie paper with Bacall, especially the amazing color on The Big Sleep! Thanks for posting, Chris! Okie

Wow, I really like that still image as well, Crowzilla! Man, I'd sure like an 11x14 of it for sure. Thanks for sharing it! Okie

Oooo THANKS for blowing that up, Jeff. Stunning, indeed. Congrats Okie!
-
Yup - that is quite the stunner...

You are very lucky Okie, first and foremost for this great poster. Secondly that I chose not to bid! Not only good news of course. This means another extension to the house I'm afraid.
-
Thanks, Mondo, Monster, and Simes! Would enjoy seeing any Bacall posters you guys might have, too. Mondo, I guess we traded unknown favors between The Spy in Black and Confidential Agent, eh? We both have to find some large wall space. Okie

I'm not sure if it's stone litho. I'll have it in hand in a few days. Okie
-
That's a fantastic poster, okie! Congratulations.
-
Absolutely beautiful poster, but I doubt it's a stone litho.
-
Yeah, I believe it's an off-set litho...But gorgeous none-the-less! Congrats on a beautiful poster.
Crowzilla, I have the To Have and Have Not Half-sheet as well, and my Howard Hawks credit is much smaller. Is this a snipe? Different printing? Just curious...

Could be the title lobby pictured instead?

I agree with those above. This isnt stone lithography, but offset.
Beautiful and outstanding, as the Italians so often do, poster-wise. bed1

Ah yes, I didn't think of that...

Thanks everyone for the printing knowledge on Confidential Agent. I'm excited to see it up close very soon! Okie

Will this become a framed centerpiece for you, Okie?

Hi Jeff, Yes, I'm going to frame it. I think it's going to take up all the center as well as the edges of its hanging wall! I'm not sure that it's ever been said before of Bacall, though in this case at 4 foglio, when she hangs around the wall, she really hangs around the wall! I was also thinking to myself, if this thread had been titled the "Charles Boyer" thread, what posters would we get to see??? Okie
-
Okie, do you have any more L. Bacall to dazzle us with? prayer.gif
-
Hi Jeff, I do like Lauren Bacall, for sure! I have some other paper with Bacall, though nothing like the Martinati. I'm not sure I should go that large again as it is a big wall to take a 4 Foglio. Okie
-
Then show us some of your smaller Bacalls, okie. I'm sure she looks just as fine on those other posters, too.

This PBS website with some of her images will have to do for now, Jeff. Some nice ones.

Thanks, Poster Art! I really like it, too. Amazing to see it at full size. Okie

Amazing, for sure, especially first presented in that full size, back in 4/18. ;)

Thanks, Timeless! Man, I would have loved to see it hanging outside a movie theatre in Italy back in the day. Thank goodness the Italians had some great art on these Warner Brothers movies, eh?! Okie

You are very kind, Poster Art! I displayed The Confidential Agent Italian 4 Foglio at a convention a couple of years ago and that sure was fun seeing folks react to it in person. I think once posters get to this size and bigger they are less likely to be up on display and that is a challenge in collecting at this size and a real shame for great artists like Martinati. We have close to 10 foot ceilings in our house now, though I do miss the 12 foot+ ceilings we had in our last house. Those high ceilings were great for large posters. My best, Okie
-
You displayed it at a convention? What kind of convention? I have very few 4 Foglios for the very reason you mention... So sad...and so hard to frame, too.
CHEERS!

Hi Monster,
Just your average-fun-small-collectibles convention in middle America. Some buddies and I have also enjoyed hosting illustration and poster galleries over the decades as well at some larger cons. I've really enjoyed dusting things off sometimes and sharing art and posters with old and new fandom. Best, Okie
