Juli, cool stuff but you need to show some love to your posters, my man. Spend some bucks on $55 fixed frames from Susan at Hollywood Poster Frames (http://stores.ebay.com/HollywoodPosterFrames) and/or $75 flip frames from Spotlight Displays (http://www.spotlightdisplays.com/) and/or (last choice) $39 Trendsetter frames from Michael's (http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=fr0509). You won't regret it.
I wouldn't know how to put the frames up though. Never hung a frame in my life.I cant stand the sight of taped posters .. PM me your address and Ill come hang the frames for you !! :)
~ Juli
I really need to track down one of those Fifth Element quads!
Fuck posters. My jersey is all I want.
Mel, I am curious - how do you get your folded (or even rolled for that matter) posters appear to lay very flat within the frames?
Are the posters basically right upon against the plexiglass (i.e. squished tightly between backing and front)?
I have a smallish linenbacked poster that I can't even get to lay nicely flat with a matting and a secure backing!
The flip frames put very heavy pressure on the plexiglass poster and they'll flatten anything. Plus I store all my posters flat, so that helps.
The main problem I'm having with framing is that the frames are exactly 27x40 (or 27x41). Many posters are slightly longer than those dimensions. Sticking an oversize poster in an undersize frame is guaranteed to create permanent compression waves.
Lookin' good Zorba!
So you only started collecting a year ago?
I hear you Z. I've only been doing this for a few years and I'm already hooked. My recent break was good though... I recommend everyone take them if they are feeling a bit obsessed with poster collecting. I'm not done collecting by any means, but it has helped with prioritizing my efforts (and funds).
Redid the kitchen corner into a Dean Martin / Matt Helm tribute....Love Dino! :)
The TV now has friends too. Tombstone takes over my quad frame. I know many of you hate linenbacking but I really do enjoy my lb Godfather B2.
How did you get yourself to take the break?....

I got a PhD! A doctoral defense isn't something I would wish upon my worst enemy, but it did get me to focus for a few months!
Updated the poor mans Bond wall.
Looks great Z. Are you strictly Connery?
Looks great Z. Are you strictly Connery?
So, would you recommend them?
Thanks for the info on the lightbox. Sounds like I will need to be careful and ask questions before hand.
Did you buy the two bulb system or the four bulb. Four kind of sounds like overkill for my little room.
I got the four bulb system, as I figured if it was too bright, then I could simply remove 2 of the bulbs. And I forgot to mention that River City Theater Lightboxes said that if I wanted to return the lightbox, he would have to charge me the cost of shipping it to me, a $100 re-stocking fee, and of course I would have to cover the cost to ship it back.
Sometime soon I will probably get a lightbox from Stargate Cinema and start a thread about it.
Just switched out my Goonies Map Style 1 Sheet for this. I found it when I was going through my flat file, I forgot all about it.
Hey Neo,
you could always build one. Pretty simple to do and I know a few people on this forum has done it. I think Holiday was the first and I used some of his techniques to build mine. I know Chad, Supraman079 has also built one.
Chad's: http://web.mac.com/supraman079/iWeb/Movie%20Poster%20Collection/Lightbox.html (http://web.mac.com/supraman079/iWeb/Movie%20Poster%20Collection/Lightbox.html)
Here is mine: http://www.moviepostermadness.com/Movie_Poster_Madness/Light_Boxes.html (http://www.moviepostermadness.com/Movie_Poster_Madness/Light_Boxes.html)
I cant get Holiday's link to work - Hey Holiday fix your "old site" link

Great color schemes in you apartment Zorba.... all the posters compliment the walls.. thumbup
Stew
P.S. Can anybody loan me a time machine so I can go back to March of last year and tell myself "BUY POSTERS LIKE THIS - NOT CHEESEBALL US ONE SHEETS"!
Mel's REPULSION post brings up an excellent point...Has anybody else's poster tastes changed dramatically since they started collecting?
Does this mean I've evolved aesthetically or just become anti-American? And how come it seems that nobody starts off buying beautiful Polish or French 2panels and then declines into cheap Harry Potter repros?
It's the 1990s/2000s Photoshop montage posters in my collection that bug me now. Why in the world did I buy them? I threw away 50 or so of them in disgust. I still like the 60s/70s illustrated posters.
I threw away 50 or so of them in disgust.
NOOO!!!!! Mel Dont toss them all .. Let me know Ill be more than happy to send you $ for shipping !!! :)
Me and my posters have been kicked out of the house.
Based on that statement, does that mean YOU are living in your Man Room as well? Yikes! Did you two get in an argument over Machete?

That's cool, CJ. Those boxes look excellent, like they were professionally made. How much did the raw materials cost for each, around $250? If so, building one myself would be a good way to save a few Benjamin Franklins. You guys have inspired me to look into building my own! :D

Sorry Neo for not answering your question sooner. The materials for the boxes cost somewhere between $250.00 - $300.00. It is well worth building them yourself compared to what is out there in that price range.

Ohh not too many of those Nightmare quads floating around out there ..As of right now that is my most prized poster! It took me a long time to find.
Some good horror posters displayed CJ138. Welcome to APF!Thanks CJ, I love your Inglorious Basterds lightbox setup!
Cj
Very nice collection, CJ138....especially like the CREEPSHOW UK Quad by Berni Wrightson. Good stuff all around! The Creepshow quad is a very close second to the NOES, thanks Brude!
This is awesome. I can't wait to see them all up. Very nice.
T
The only issue Im having is all the odd sizes .. Id hate to spend $50-100+ plus on a frame for a poster I only paid $30-50 for :P So unless I get a "hook-up" with a framer or teach myself .. I dont know if any of the others that are not 24x36 or 18x24 will see the walls .. I was disappointed about the odd sizing issues I had with the Tatooine and Power Droid prints too .. If they hadnt bee slightly larger than advertised (24x36) theyd be on the walls now too ..
Thanks Brude! Mel was glad to see that I have finally started showing off some of my posters and taking advantage of my wall real estate !! ;)
CJ- I have thought about spotlight .. BUt I have been worried that even as cheap as they can be theyd be above the amount Id want to spend on these .. I bought 16 frames yesterday as well as new black acid free foam core for the backing and on average I spent just under $20 each .. Which to me for these thats an acceptable deal .. Anyone have any idea how much Spotlight frames are for smaller odd sizes in the area of 18x24 ??
Those Alamos really look good...Mel will be impressed... thumbup
Thanks "other CJ" ;) .. Im going to see if I can get some better pics so you can actually see some of the posters as well .. That picture just doesnt do them justice by any means ..
I ran into a big problem today though .. Sat down to watch Last of the Mohicans on the big screen and realized I have essentially mounted a wall of mirrors in my theater !!! So now I have to see what I can do to change these over to a non-glare material !! :(
I buy alot of frames from Sue Heim at hollywoodposters. She offers non glare plexi with her frames maybe you could reach out to her. However you do it, I have a feeling it will not be cheap....but the end result will be awesome

That looks great framed, Chris. Nice job. thumbup
What a tasteful presentation, Chris.

Chris, beautiful posters. I love the To Have and Have Not and The Mummy posters. They look very nice how you displayed them. :)

She does look evil, but maybe you are over-feeding her???!
She gets 1 cup of food once a day, and always has. Cant leave food out or she will eat until every last bit is gone.

You want the real cat with the laser eyes? This my friends is Sam, 25 pounds (no exaggeration) of pure fury. That chair is hers. About a year ago, my friend came over with his dog, a german shorthaired pointer, and it got too close to the chair. Sam showed him the error of his ways, and we got to see 25 lbs of cat hitting that dog like a bowling ball. She then proceeded to pop him in the face over and over, maybe 10 times before we got to them. If she had claws, it would have been really, really ugly. When the dog finally got up, he tucked tail and lay in the corner the rest of the afternoon.

They're in the West Wing of chez AP where the windows are huge...
Nah! Sorry, they're the iris proof mock-ups created by the design companies to get the artwork signed off, approx. 12"x16".
Got the framers to perspex the back as well so the original design company stickers can be seen.
The wife kicked all the others out.
...just show her images of Mels - wall to wall of his framed posters. I am sure she would cave and say 1 or 2 more in the house would be ok.

Thats because he knows he has to step into the biological replicator contraption and be turned into a white dog.
Now that (THE KILLER) is a poster worthy of framing.
Really nice, Evan.
I once did, I think when Mel first showed it to us, and her answer was: "Does he have a girlfriend?" (Sorry Mel, it's true :))
T
That is not universally true about women and posters... my wife loves our posters! She could care less about the collecting aspects, and about the hoards paper I have stored away never to see the light of day, but everything that is on the walls went up with her enthusiastic approval. She can't wait to get the new French Bogart up either!
We first started talking about it posters in terms of art... I think that helped.

You can tell us, I highly doubt she checks this site.
The question is if you had those things down BEFORE she came in.
... It may well have turned into a scandalous night!!! ;)
I think if it goes good with this lady, Mel, then I do believe just a few of your posters will be taken down over time to appease her.
Great set up and posters Jay.

Well after two months in transit (including one RTS) my Grace Kellys arrived. The High Society Half sheet is pretty much flawless. I would put it up against any other copy. Thought I was getting the red one but this one will do. It has one faint 2" wrinkle, else I almost thought it was fake when I pulled it out of the tube... Ahh what a sight!

Excellent,stuff,
The Sam Peckinpah wooden cross,is that an original movie set piece??
Stew
Yes, from my film PASSION & POETRY - THE BALLAD OF SAM PECKINPAH. I made it out of wood from the WILD BUNCH hacienda in Mexico (with the blessings of his Mexican daughter). When I wanted to board the plane to LA with it, dismantled, I suddenly faced machine guns pointing at my head: the custom guys thought I had robbed an ancient grave...He,he the cross caught my eye as I seem to remember that a few of the old Westerns would have the names of Directors on some of them, whenever there was a Graveyard featured..

Well, I have been working on this room for several months now. Just this weekend, I got to the point where it was time to put some posters on the wall. I haven't framed any of the one sheets or larger posters yet. There will be 4 large format posters, another quad, and 3-4 more one sheet (or B1s) going up. Pardon my photography skills. The lighting in there isn't worked out completely yet.

I think it's the perspective, Paul.

Got my 2nd ever 6 sheet up onto a wall!
Hammered 2 hooks into the wall, screwed 2 eye hooks either end of a 2m x 20mm x 10mm long wood, and with 5 transparent pins attached the linen to the wood (top edge of poster). One reason to hang it up is to touch up the tiny paper loss areas with pencil.

Attempt at for a sense of scale. The poster actually looks small in the photo but looks like it takes up most of the room in reality!

I like the poster, haven't seen the film, but even tough it looks vintage, seems out of place to me, but really, that's only because it all looks so great I am commenting, my walls are a mess a the moment, bits of junk everywhere and needs a major overhaul. You inspire me.
I added a quad to the wall in the theater this weekend........

Dunno, seems to me it would be better to have the Louis Pasteur poster on the fridge?
Difference is mine might help me scrape into heaven, whereas yours will certainly doom you for eternity ;)
I see - you are just trying to cover all bases. And I am sure Jebus is just enough of a rock star to appreciate being lenticularized ;)
I bet it was taken long ago Jeff. Jebus and the Disciples sounds rockin'!
My wife gave me complete rights to the stairway and upstairs bedrooms.
This is the first poster going up in the newly allocated room - it belongs to my wife, she's been a Betty Boop fan for quite a few years and has a few (not lots) little statues etc dotted around the house. So I got her this as a Xmas present several years ago
It's an S2 reprint of the 1932 original...

had to change a wall, as the pic fell off.

Bella seems always collapsed sitting on one leg. Is that because of her(?) injury?
I would have been disappointed if he had. It took some wrestling to get it out of my hands so I'm glad it's on the wall now being enjoyed, rather than in a tube still under my bed.
Yes, she's only 3 years old but has already had one hip operation at 7 months (Femoral Head Ostecomy) and one knee operation (this year) due to a Luxating patella. Guess which one of the four animals we didn't get round to insuring.... hitself
Difficult to follow, but. I don't have much on the walls poster-wise, this is the current batch...
This is an original by a local artist...

With my office full my wife allowed me framing space in one of the spare bedrooms, I needed no second invitation. The LCs are hers.

I may need to start hinting about another bedroom...
I just noticed your flat file is on wheels. What a concept! I think I may have to make some modifications... Nice!
Very nice, David....Are you really tall or ;)?

Its actually the neighbors collection shot through their window
Thierry and basketball guys might like the one to the left; it's been leaning in my closet for ever.
Didn't the auction just end? How in the world did you get it so quickly? :o
The stuff I won Thursday from Bruce arrived at my humble abode today. cheers
@Thierry - Believe it or not I was a huge Basketball fan in the late 80s through the end of the Jordan era... I've got a lot of cool Clutch City stuff...
Me: "So I can buy you Paul Newman posters?"
Her: "Sure!"
My Thoughts: "Cool Hand Luke OS - guilt free... Score!"
Now I'm all excited!!! You should post some pictures in the NBA thread.

So last night my wife complained that our one and only poster frame has been empty for the past 4 months. She requested a poster. This is a first. So I had to go dig something up, took the first one that came, and it actually doesn't look too bad.
I HATE linenbacked posters, with a passion, but I got this one for so cheap I couldn't not buy it. No restoration was done, it is in flawless condition. Just backed. I just didn't have the energy to go dig up some other crap from some drawers. This one was just sitting there, so I grabbed it.

With Thierry's vast collection, I think he could do a monthly rotation of French 1p's for years to come. Jpegs are nice, but it's so much cooler to see these old posters hanging in a modern living space. Really brings them alive!
Of course, when you're married...

Agree. Ted come on buddy just tell them already LOL.
Okay, I've gotta come clean.

Well there's something unexpected! I wonder what the electricity bills are like for that collector?
I know for a fact one is a repro and I'm not telling which one it is. :pI don't even know how you can see them Ari. The pics are so damn small lol.

That's because you were not part of the forum when we created it, Rosa. I am French, and I can't stand large French posters being called Grande, because it doesn't mean anything by itself. For instance, Heritage calls the medium size French poster Affiche, which is wrong too. Affiche means poster in French and has nothing to do with size. You can have a Grande Affiche, a Moyenne Affiche or a Petite Affiche (also called Affichette). Grande by itself is an adjective, and doesn't mean anything without the word Affiche next to it. Since it is my forum, I have banned Grande from it. My pet peeve, my prerogative.

Good to see another Melbourne boy on board! Is your framer in Edithvale?Actually no. He's based in St Kilda. Centrifuge Design, I think. He does a good job with the framing although I made a rookie mistake early on and had him mount the Young Guns poster on some kind of poster board. Having seen how that turned out and then read a bit about why this is a terrible idea I had the Blow Out one linen backed. Controversial around here I know but it just displays so much better for my money. In time I'll do the same with another copy of YG that I have.
Jeebus another Aussie! What to do, what to do?Well Irish really but Australia has been (a great) home for the last 6 years.

I like that Earth vs the Flying Saucers. It looks as if it is covering a hole in the wall. Is the Beast from 20,000 fathoms a 3-sht?
hs is covering a stained glass panelVery Nice 3shts. Good idea to cover up the stained glass with a great poster.
yes, 3sh as is Blue Dahlia
Rich...that Beast looks linen backed...if it is, keep it real and send it to me...you frigging wanker :-*
I'll pay the postage because I really do love you. :P
I think I fucked up my smilies. :-\
yes they are both linenbacked. part of that 1% of my collection in such.
I can tell youthis, it would be impossible for me to replace that poster this way.. It is absolutely perfect with no restoration at all. You can stand right in front of it & marvel at that
Good...so I can still hate you. :'(

Very cool, Charlie.
For the albums, are those special frames? Where might I find something like that? Gonna need to frame my Drive album when it arrives. TIA!
Yeah, they are album frames. You can get them at most hobby lobby/michaels type places.

alright so it's going up soon, but not up yet.
bought a group of 19 spanish heralds of my favorite older movies on ebay. For me, the full sized posters would be all out of my price range, but these are perfect for what I'd had in mind.
I've kept most of my movie ticket stubs, and had been planning to frame them as a collage, and put them under glass on a c.offee or end table in a TV room, but after finding the heralds for sale I thought it'd be more interesting to combine the two.
here's a rough layout cell phone pic:

On the love seat are rolled posters that I don't have storage room for at the moment. May have to go back in their tubes. It is getting out of hand. Must stop! :P 8)

Gotcha.
If it's too risque, you should swap it to me for something more office friendly.

BTW, did I mention how classy your posters display?

Spotlight to the rescue! Took a weekend to remove the wallpaper border, paint and 3 hours to hang the frames but man my wall is finally alive... Pardon the blank spot that is where my planned work table (length of the room) will eventually go...
Its been on my wall about a year waiting for me to do restoration (pencil and some paper in fills) and I finally completed it today. I decided to leave the borders a bit tatty without restoration. I stuck myself in the pic for scale.

Chris..
What?
Decided to repaint the house after 12 years, thus...gotta hang some stuff to counteract my crap paint choices. Heck you know what I mean. I'm no interior decorator when it comes to colour. :-[

Matt, that Creature DB does not suit your colour scheme. Please send it on to me. I'm sure I could find a more suitable wall for it
Fab display and I agree, it is the best way to enjoy those two incredible posters. I am a huge fan of that film.
Btw, Neo. You have brought a bed for me when I come and visit you? Yes....No? I'm not a couch person.
This is pretty much my ideal wall, something I've strived for in years of collecting.

Thanks, guys.
It's a classic movie, and although I like the original poster art, when I was younger I watched MTV Cribs a few times and each episode had a rapper with one framed, so that's part of the reason that compelled me to get these prints, with a similar concept (black/white design).
Classic soundtrack, also. Here's a great song to help get through Humpday, aka Wednesday. 8)

Is it my computer, or does that Red Scarface title stand out like a 3D effect...?
Play this up in my office this afternoon, six of us singing along and dancing...oh...these are the days !!! ;D
Also my wife invested in this nice frame holder so I can bring things out to display and change them regularly...nice present!
What a fabulous idea. thumbup

http://www.youtube.com/v/j_-MsDSAW0Y
Chris,
Absolutely, positively, with out a shadow of a doubt.....too cool for words! Maybe I need a few daybills.
Thanks Lyn - you know your walls ain't too bad themselves.
My walls have to come down. We're moving from the Bamberg/Schweinfurt area to Landstuhl/Ramstein at the end of the month. Mein Frau has a new job and we have to relocate. Now I get to redesign/rework/reconfigure everything. Oh the huge manatee.
But you should leave daybills to the professionals... ;)
Recieved a new spotlight frame today so I had to completely change my main poster wall. It a better representation of my collection.

but my eyes drifted to the left one first...
Maybe I should put Grace somewhere more deserving of her stature.
Don't go into the Woods is terrific - another one on my `want' list
most of yalls collection is in the 1000s but to me, that is the most I have ever paid for a single poster
Ha! You just wait and your buying habits will change!!!
Armin
they are in my mind at least to be displayed at some point in time.
As I get older the want list gets smaller, partly because I have more, but also because I get more focused and realise owning a thousand posters is more than enough in fact it's stupid unless I manage to inherit a mansion (unlike some who enjoy them being packed away). Although I do have a lot that I wouldn't display ever, so I do enjoy them packed away to a degree. But anything that isn't part of a specific collection that I try and be completist about, they are in my mind at least to be displayed at some point in time.
I think I am bonkers having 200 or so posters, and so do people who know me, hence the slow down in my recent collecting
I think your Bonkers that you ONLY have 200.... ;)
But, who give a flying @$&% what other people think... It's what you think that counts.. wynk
Yeah, how much do numbers play in being an "elite" collector because only having 200 seems more like a "casual" collector vs. "elite"... ;)
Well I do have a further 100 or more Mexican Lobby Cards so I may actually be entering the world of the Elite
Entering???? Thats beyond elite. Thats the insane elite!
Except Armin is muchos loco elitisimo
I prefer to be addressed as "loco superior".

thanks rdavey26.Sounds like you need the quad now.
i do have the daybill, just not framed yet, and the german, danish, japan, and the one big french one need frames too.
I was telling a girl last night about Critters, only 18 but she loves the B movie genre and had never heard of it ... I await her review lol.
Recieved a new spotlight frame today so I had to completely change my main poster wall. It a better representation of my collection.

For those of you who haven't checked out T's Bardot collection -- the best I've ever seen -- here's the link: http://www.eatbrie.com/Bardot.htm (http://www.eatbrie.com/Bardot.htm)
All 4 are beautiful, T. Picking which to display would be very difficult!
I want to be able to open it and change posters.Any idea how it would open ?.
T
The hinges would be at the top. It would open from the bottom, like the other frame.Makes sense..that would make the posters easier to change.
Makes sense..that would make the posters easier to change.
Stew
Side hinges would be easy to work with,:o... :P
Yeah, but side hinges put a lot of pressure on the hinges and the wood they're connected to. Plexi can be heavy, especially thus big. Top hinges don't have this problem. All you need is a piece of wood or metal to hold your frame open.i wouldn`t go with side hinges either, the weight of the frame could loosen the wall fiiting.

Jeff, we tried to do it on the hallway frame my father-in-law built, but it was too damn heavy, especially on the top hinges. I'm sure it can be done, but why take the risk when top hinges are so easy on the wood.
T
welcome1 to the forum Ray, and may I say, Very nice indeed... thumbup
Love the six sheet. How did you put in on the wall?
Pushpins. There's usually at least one set of tack holes in most of these vintage posters. I generally keep them up for a month or so. We have screenings every month as well as Sons of the Desert meetings each month, so I like to switch-out the oversize posters.
Good on you. Screenings, with different posters up, that's my dream. Do you try to show a poster for what is showing in the screening?
Used to be in the Sons of the dessert myself, jollyfine nights. It was the "Your Darn toot'in" Tent... :D
Nice Belgians Charlie thumbup
I thought it appropriate that I show that I finally got it up!
Despite this being a family channel, if you are proud of that fact then I share in your happiness, I am sure you will get much pleasure from it...

Little did Shatner know that the rubber mask of his likeness would become such a recognized symbol for horror, right?
Yes, getting ready for our Rialto screening this month...

Great Hitchcock Charlie!
In the spirit of the season (and Halloween is the BEST holiday), I put up my Halloween OS.
I love the taglines on the poster (Everyone is entitled to one good scare, even though Michael has provided more than one, IMO), and the Michael Myers Mask still creeps me out. Tis the season ;D

Are your OS that are leaning on the floor kept in large plastic sleeves with some kind of cardboard backing?
Well, one of the reasons I moved out of Manhattan and up to the country (I still drive to NYC every day) was so I could afford a place with plenty of space. What's the point of having a collection if you can't share it? I even put on a big exhibit at a local art gallery a few years ago. That's the best part of collectiing - sharing.

Actually, it did cross my mind.
Been a while getting to this point but finally got this framed and up, a statement piece for the entrance if I do say so myself...
Certainly is, well done!

Awesome placement and statement piece, too! cheers
Cleo does look quite at home, that is fantastic David..
Lookin' great Charlie. Was the African Queen up before?
Yeah, can't put that one away.
Good stuff Jeff, what's that backing?

Very nice frame job!
Is this the double large Frenchie? How did you frame it...is it a flip frame from Robert/Spotlight?
Looks terrific.
David.. is it one piece of plexi? Or two? And what are those 2 little 'mushrooms' in the corner, by the door? ;D
Just received this one back. Need to find a place for it tonight.
Yes it is the double and it was framed here is Sydney, not many can do them this big and our regular framer was a tad too expensive; it is not a flip frame. The acrylic glass had to be order specially as it is a non standard size.
And thanks - we love it, more so because it has somewhere in our house we can display it properly.
One piece plexi...
Thai elephants (ask the wife why)...and in the opposite corner is an 18" tall wooded Betty Boop (wife again).
Betty Boop rocks. ;)
Yeah, can't put that one away. It was hiding where the albums are. The Rear Window looks out of place now may have to switch that one out...

Why in the hell is the television facing the wall Brandon??? Everything up on the walls looks great by the way. Love the Terrornauts. I was bidding on it but set a limit as usual. Hate when it gets close to the holidays. I have to watch what I spend so I can get the kids Christmas. Looks good happy1
I was going to ask about the TV also, but thought I might be seeing something wrong.

Steve, what looks like a periscope? The beam for the sit up board?
I'm pretty sure that The Big Lebowski B1 is a theatrical release.
To throw another curveball into the mix, according to japanesemoviepostercompany not all Japanese posters have an Eirin mark.
Asks our resident expert, Holiday. He knows all about Japanese posters. He may even have one of those. Heck, he's got everything else, so why not.
T
Was yours from eMovie?
If this is your poster (http://www.emovieposter.com/gallery/inc/archive_image.php?id=10729052) then unfortunately it is an ad for the home video release.
1. BIG LEBOWSKI was released theatrically in Japan on November 11th, 1998
2. The release date on the poster states Friday (金) October 8th as the release date, which was in 1999.
3. On the bottom of right of the poster, next to the date, it says 同時発売 (doji hatsubai), which means roughly translated "on sale everywhere".

Have you ever seen a theatrical B1? Or do you know if they exist?
I'd say more so for Neo. The $ to me is less the problem and more the time invested in it.
Plus he had it backed and restored... But if doesn't want it; I'll take it!
because we will take it back for a full refund
Mighty kind of you to offer the refund, Bruce, but I'm still stoked to own it. cool1

Nice! Looks even better up their than the Star Wars did.
The collector I bought it from had it linenbacked 20 years ago to put it on the wall and had zero work done to it. Considering its rarity, its in stunning condition. Since I don't plan on having it up longer than a couple of months, I probably leave it as is.

Awesome Randy, what country are they from? Those are from the United Kingdom. They are UK Quads (30x40). They are big but man the artwork is great. Love the artwork that Graham Humphrey's does. There are several other posters in which he did the artwork for that I would love to get. In time I guess.

Thanks all! A long term project to get all these posters on the wall. In some cases it took several years from acquisition to being displayed but FINALLY I have my poster/collection room. The biggest obstacle other than having the space is finding the right size frames and getting archival materials. Collecting beautiful posters is perhaps the easiest part of the equation ;) It is a great feeling to sit amongst all these pieces of paper and really get to soak them in and appreciate them...

Not nicely framed like wonka's FP but I'm cheap ;D. This is a beta version of the final hanging, the upper and lower jaws holding the poster will be of a better wood and no clamps (at least that's the plan). May also do some unching to make a little more space available between the Mummy and InvisRay for (trumpet sounds) another insert.

Looks maybe to be the Daybill rereleased in '49? Heritage has a pic of one that looks similar. Either way, it's amazing. One of my favorite Daybills ever bed1
Was a daybill made for the original release?
I looked on imdb but they dont have a release year listed for Australia.
I imagine it would have been released in Australia. After all Frankenstein and Dracula originally were (only to be banned later on). It would be a long daybill (15x40 or so vs. 13x30) however and I bet, since daybills quite often copied three sheet artwork, it might even be the same. That said I have no knowledge of one still existing.

Very nice cool1
Some of the World War II posters are beauts. I was lucky to see a few in person at an exhibit last year called "women, war, and industry."

Thanks and thanks for the link the better half and I will both have to check it out. Believe it or not she is a bigger war history buff than I am. We went to look at a large collection of WWI posters last weekend and she wanted every single one even if they were plain text only.
Love your walls by the way. Are those 30x40's by the gold clubs?
Cool. Y'all must be like jedis with your knowledge.
Thanks. Yeah, those 3 30x40 frames are the only ones in that format in my humble abode.

Have me beat, I got rid of my last 30x40 for any title last year. BladeRunner, may he rest in piece. It is all good though it went to a member.
Not that humble. Great display

+1. Great Christmas stuff PW.
Those are beauts, UD.
The new Red Cross poster is getting a triple header tonight. Latest acquisitions, before and after and showing off the corner pair here. Really love the artists, Howard Chandler Christy's, work.

Nice job Mike that looks awesome. Are you set-up w/ de-acifying bath and all? Nice frame job too. thumbsup.gifThanks. Yes, fully de-acidified. These should remain in their current condition barring a physical accident for longer than me.
Are these Movie Posters???
You might find yourself translated into another forum...
Are those Hungarian Godfathers A1s? If so you ceilings must be very tall!
Matt, they are A2s. Do you have A1s for those?
So with the festive season coming up, I have my Santa Quad in the hall, and swapped the Creature for my Scrooge in the living room, it does need a bit of work....I'll get it done for next year. ;)

kovacs01,
Very nice posters man, Im diggin that Mad Max also.
Schan I love your walls. :)
The poster's nice, but against that wallpaper...?
The business of both seem to be fighting for the attention of the eye... Have you not got a plain wall against which to display?
I'm relieved to hear that Sunset Boulevard is just temporarily placed on the door - some real quality pieces there Matt - L'Avventura deserves to have an entire wall for itself.

Sorry to hijack your post Neo! Looking good! And by the way, I finally tracked down a theatrical Lebowski B1. Looks just like the B2.
Personally, I'd feel better with the UV acrylic that is calculated to very low transmission percentages. If you feel confident in your calculations and have faith that the stuff will work as you determined it should, then more power to you.
To be clear, I am definitely NOT confident in those numbers -- 1/4" acrylic offering 80-85% blocking is just a WAG. The framers I spoke with heard it from the acrylic sales folks and it does make sense from a theoretical standpoint. If any one has data on how UV transmission is impacted by acrylic thickness, please do share. The downside to using thicker acrylic is weight. Normally, acrylic is about 1/2 the weight of comparable thickness glass -- but by moving to 4x the thickness my frames are actually twice as heavy as a glass framed poster. I went to pick up 6 cut pieces of 1/4" acrylic nearly threw out my back! I ended up carrying them out to the car in two batches!
That all said, the posters had been framed with regular 65-70% blocking acrylic so 1/4" acrylic will be an improvement in UV protection no matter what. Also keep in mind that I put 98% UV film on all my exterior windows so they only thing I'm really protecting against at this point is UV emitted from the inside light fixtures.
And one last benefit of my deep wood frames that I forgot to mention -- because the eye screws and hanging wire are mounted on the inside edges of the back of the frame, your frames will sit flat against the wall! No more tippy top/bottom frames due to protruding hanging hardware. Unfortunately I live in a 1912 house without flat walls, but they WOULD be flat :)
A bit difficult to follow Schan' awesomeness, but as Christmas is over swapped Scrooge with this one.....Yvonne' pick.

A friend of mine (http://iancurcio.com/) is a professional photographer. A lot of his work is environmental portraits and he asked to shoot me with my posters. I thought y'all might get a kick out of it so I of course obliged :)

Lookin' good neo! What is the one between nerds and el duderino?
Love that room and the frames Matt. Those look very professional. I think we would all love to have our stuff professionally framed along those lines, but it is much too cost prohibitive. Although, I still prefer black most of the time.

I had to look twice for the fire extinguishers. :P
The owners of this place have a cool setup of various things. It's a really groovy, eclectic vibe with all the different pieces and frames and all. All it needs are a few movie posters.

The language looks Italian so I would say they are 4 Fogli's
Great set up.
And it is one hell of a statement - not one but two 6-sheets, floor to ceiling.
Wonder what the framing cost each? Do you know if she went the whole way and secured UV protection and non-reflective? I only ask, as I see she does have the blinds drawn...
They are definitely not 6 sheets even though they look big. The language looks Italian so I would say they are 4 Fogli's (almost as big as a 6 sheet)
Thanks for the links Jeff. Interesting to see the other posters in her place. The Marylin is great.
Ah - begging your pardon.Haha ....that happens to me often too :P
Wasn't looking close enough!
Agree, and you are welcome, Steve. And she has a lot of great things on her site, as well. Ive been in touch with her before, when i inquired on a few things, but her prices are a bit above the norm for many things. Todd Spoor of MP Grading has a number of the Eastwood IT 4Fs too, on his walls, and, in frames, are truly a sight to see, in person. They become centerpieces of any wall.
I don't know, I think the prices are spot on. Just not for 2015, maybe 2023.

Hey Mike is that the 27x40 Michael's frame?
It actually looks pretty damn good, I was debating buying it when it was 50% off.
Nice choice on the all black matting.
It's just coincidence Simon.. Yvonne isn't keen on Horror posters up in the main part of the house, so it's what you would call a compromise.. ;)
I'll check on that Jeff, I sure it's not a Chantrell, but I maybe wrong...
First there was T, now there's e... Welcome to the forum e, liking your stuff so far.
Maybe, in time, we will also have an "a," "b," and "c"
;D
Good stuff, e! Interesting to contrast the Dead Alive poster with the poster in the UK for Braindead...quite different in tone! Thanks! Yes they are quite different, definitely shows two sides of the movie.
Welcome to the forum, looking forward to seeing more of your collection.
Whose the guy with the shades in the top poster with the receding hairline. Is that Johnny Depp? He looks like Fred Dyer (TV's "HUNTER" from the 80s). Ha! Nice additions though.

Not stolen or rearranged. Everything had to be taken down to comply with fire codes.
It's interesting how the owners left all the picture hangers on the wall.
Framed works on a wall are breaking a fire code? I wonder how? And idea, Brandon? It's not like random, "naked" paper is thumb tacked to the walls. Or is it because they are hung in a stairwell?
Makes sense.
In a rush to get down stairs, frames could get knocked off the walls and cause people to trip or even get cut from broken frame glass.. things like that.
Right, and blocking the path in such a narrow space. Also, combustibles in a stairwell would be a powerful incendiary. If a door to the stairwell opens in a fire, the stairwell acts as a chimney, which could trap people on the upper floors.
A mural or something like that would be best in such a space. I know someone who has a rad mural going up a similar style stairwell. I'll snap a photo of it sometime.
I for one would like to see photos of the mural. I am working on a mural right now for my daughter!
I for one would like to see photos of the mural. I am working on a mural right now for my daughter!
Well that was a delightful stairwell before the fire department intervened. Surely Neo they must accept the notion that sacrificing a few lives for art isn't necessarily a bad thing?
I like the painting on the left. This is exactly what I like to see hanging at people's houses. What is it?

Interesting you should say that Jeff. I first thought of a Daubigny look alike, but it's hard to tell from the angle. I don't think it's anything amazing, but it looks nice.
T
are you haunted by a ghostly Psycho?
is that tree a sticker (decal)? we got one just like it.Yup...the wife digs em, i would've rather put up another poster. thumbsup.gif
Just those 2 Japanese ones of yours I am still looking for, T (also possibly the full size Japanese one with the illustrations as I have that as a chirashi and the programme, shall have to go through my posters this summer and catalogue them) , I don't know how many I have in total (when I started I foolishly bought a few reproductions and those silly reprinted signed ones, what can I say, I was learning! I have a few duplicates as some are in varying condition (the famous UK quad was reprinted in late '80s by various London stores so I had to hunt down an original and few survive in great condition, that I know of). I don't know what ones I am missing as I don't know if they made ones from Poland/Czech etc (I see various Coppola titles in Polish but not these two?) I notice I have a few that are not listed on your site so let me know if you want me to PM ones that you can look to add? To be honest, I use your site as a guide and I have them all except for these two or three Japanese ones with the YA tie ins. Do you not have a Turkish Outsiders to go with your Turkish RF? It has a pretty lady on it!
I think my rarest would be a Hebrew Rumble Fish poster. (just the same Solie artwork, heavily bolded with a lurid coloured border) Oh and I got a nice one from Doug Coupland the producer, he was doing a fundraiser in Tulsa for the cinema that the Outsiders filmed in and he had an auction for 6 original signed posters from Coppola and himself and another who worked as a producer, so I grabbed a rarer US advance as my previous poster was rather beat up and was pleasantly surprised that Doug further personalised it with "To Katie, our biggest fan" haha ;) will dig it out for a photo!
I collect everything on these two films specifically (am currently working on a heavy research project) and my priceless items would be original scripts in their embossed folders that I have the cast sign and also my outsiders complete novel version poster that I am awaiting two last signatures and then I can frame it.
Well...I was wrong. My house is in Kansas. Tulsa is a short 2.5 hour drive. Have you ever viewed a film at the Admiral Twin? There is a certain energy in the air only common to the drive in....IMHO anyway.
Anyhow....if your in the neighborhood I am always up to meet a fellow collector!
I live in the OKC area.
Schan....really? That is a shorter drive than Tulsa...just straight south on 35. Is that an invitation? ;D
Depends on when you want to come. Are you in Wichita? I am up there all the time........my wife is from up that way.
My Trilogy is finally up on the wall.

Print quality is nice. The paper weight is similar to an Italian.
The Indian six sheet is 55x106in. each piece is little bit smaller than a UK quad
Yes and since I have white walls I am considering putting more nails in the wall for bus shelters and one sheets . I kinda want to countersink and skim them over with a tiny bit of joint compund to hide them. (even thought of using a dot of glow in the dark paint to mark the nails but I think its easy enough to find the nails in the wall once covered over) I have given this a ton of thought over the years and will also make a frame/s that will mount magnetically around the poster kinda like a magnetic snap frame that is easy to swap posters.
Jason, did you pick up the Indian 6 sheet from the bay? I do like it and the magnet in wall idea, that could be an option for the office.
finally framed this and stuck it on the wall.

As some of you know, I don't like framed posters on my walls, but yesterday I finally caved and hanged my old frame, and today I put a poster in it. I couldn't find anything, so I went for something accessible, and that was a Star Wars B0. It's a little small for the frame, but it works.

Yeah, it doesn't look too bad. I mean, it's not a great poster, but as always for me, the movie is what matters most and I think of the movie when I see the poster. I'll probably get bored with it sooner than later.

Here's a NEW poster I put together using an image from the Japanese program and art from the original pressbook. For a local screening where I'm running my 16mm print (mint original of American version).
It's funny how we're all so different. I posted my new acquisitions the other day and no one said anything about this one, when it is the one I was most excited about. One of my favorite poster designs ever. A historical artifact, really, knowing what happened to Tate a year later. I had to put it up, even if it is a little longer than my frame (the Frazetta drawing is overlapped by the bottom part of the poster.) I love it!
I'm now waiting for my wife to come home and gently say "take this shit off the wall, you're going to scare the kids."
T
These two needed some air. Most of the time, though, they will be covered up by the screen.

I have always loved both styles of Japanese Apocalypse posters, you having the far more rare style is an added bonus :)
Eastwood looks nice T!
I'm slowly working on my cinema room and I have put up two posters so far. I finally fell to the dark side and bought my first reproduction on a poster I've always wanted but I know I'll probably never have a real one. The King Kong 3-Sheet by S2 Art Group. The quality on it is really nice since they used the same stone litho process as the originals.
As much as I hate repo's I really do love the way this thing looks in person framed. It's on heavy card stock and the inks look real nice up close. It actually reminds me of a lot of my art prints that I own and everyone is amazed by it when they come over to watch a movie or football game.
I also hung up my 40x60 Jaws poster. I plan to add more just not sure if I'm going to go with regular posters or put light boxes in the walls and hardwire them to the light switch since my uncle is a master electrician.

Thanks Schan! Is your 40x60 Blade Runner on thick card stock or is it on regular paper?
You should let that B&B poster live there for a while. cool1
That looks beautiful, T. I'd be gawping at that for a while if I was at your party. It looks in amazing condition too.
Yeah, aside from a few tiny cuts at folds intersections (can't prevent those over time), it is immaculate. I truly believe it is the only folded one in existence, and to own it in this pristine shape is quite awesome. Very happy with my purchase.
T
Nice double crown. These are much harder to come by than the US OS. Great find.Yes, i was very happy to find this, not through the usual channels! Not sure on the value Bruce appears never to have sold one and Heritage have one up in November, but don't seem to have sold one prior to that
T
A folded version has never come up for auction anywhere and two of the most foremost French poster collectors I talked to prior to purchasing it have never seen one in their many years of collecting. That's not to say it doesn't exist, but it is MY belief that at this moment in time it is the only one.

I know of another one in LA (well, LA suburb). But it is very unusual.

Yeah, I forgot about Ron. He probably has one.
Me too. He might have one also.
This one I saw was in 98, owner still has it as far as I know.
Nice display there, Chris! clap clap
But no daybills in the mix? wynk
Thanks! The daybills are still on the other walls ;D

Just received this guy from HA's last sig auction and decided to put it up for a little while. No frame needed, it's not going to stay there, but I can look at it for a few weeks.

Kickin' ass, Chris.

Thanks guys. It's funny, my wife doesn't know that I bought this poster, nor does she cares really, but she was sitting there for an hour yesterday until she noticed it. She said, "Oh, that's new," and went straight to bed.
T
I don't know if it has been colorized, but this is ONE movie that CANNOT be seen in color. The B&W is gorgeous. Best film noir ever imo.
T
I don't understand how anyone who claims to love films can say that they can't watch B&W movies.
That said, I will agree that films shot in B&W benefit greatly from being seen the way they were meant to be, i.e. on the big screen. They lose quite a bit of their impact when seen on a TV screen, which has a tendency to water down the contrast and make everything look dull. That is obviously not the way those movies look when properly screened.
I agree with you 100% here, Ben.
And I would go one step further and say that any theatrically produced film, b/w or color, is meant to be seen and shown on the big screen and are not shot to be watched on a television.
TV movies, cable flicks or TV programs are produced for that medium.
Yes, the larger flat screen TVs have made viewing better (along with a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 sound system, if had, to truly enjoy the full mix of the audio track), but no director making a movie is initially setting up a shot or scene, pondering how it's going to look on a 35" TV.
I asked my 20 year old nanny and 2 of her friends if they had ever seen a B&W movie and they laughed at the idea. It makes sense to me. I was exposed to it as a child and saw a fair amount of B&W movies, but if you haven't, why should you care? I haven't seen one in years, and I don't know if I will ever expose my kids to B&W. I won't teach them how to use a rotary phone either, or warm their bath water on a fire. They will, instead, teach me about the future and I will try to learn. History is important, museums are important, but I don't think 30 years of B&W movies matter that much. It's all personal, though.
T
philistines! ;D
This is true. I watched b&w films growing up and it was whatever, a film. I have friends however who never did and when I've forced them to sit and watch one all they bemoan is an absence of colour. I've also found as they've manage to watch more they quickly get past that and appreciate b&w for its own qualities.
But b&w and colour are not just aesthetic choices. It often contribute to a film's storytelling. See any Argento for use of colour, or say; Lang's M for b&w - they're integral parts of the story.
I enjoy watching B&W movies
While not on my wall, I bought this rolled Insert for a friend, and sorted the framing thereof.
He sends this.

Most surely the last poster I have up until I move again in a couple of months.
T
You're moving again?? You've only just moved to some lovely looking beach front place, haven't you? Or is time moving faster the older I get?
Are you renting?
Is the job moving you about?
Good luck sir.
I put this up in the theater the other day 60x46" (sorry for the mediocre phone pic):

Hi Antoine, I love the combination of posters and walls!!! We have around 30 posters up on our walls, many of which I've shared on APF. Nice going on your Alphaville! Okie
I’m not a big fan of putting posters on MY walls, but I really enjoy seeing them on other people’s walls.
T
I've always loved that format for La Belle et la Bete! I've been looking for a folded copy for years, to no avail. Sadly I think I'll have to go with a linenbacked one.
That double panel for la belle et la bete is just perfect - the film, the art, the typography, the size/format. I think would be in my top 10 fave posters of all time.
Splendid box frame contraption you have there.
Did you have that specially made?
Yeah, my father in law made it for me 5 years ago and it has now been in 3 different houses. He just bought a ranch in Colorado with a workshop where he plans to make me two one-sheet frames.
This is what it looked like at the two other houses.

VERY nice. i finally just saw the SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE trilogy a few days ago. Why are you swapping out your theatrical poster for a video one sheet for the first film? I dig the wall, though. Cheers! The posters for 2 and 3 are both the video store posters, so I just want them to match up!
Well, I dig your collection. I'm a bit late to the SPM thang. I do want the posters now (theatrical if possible), but am amazed at how pricey they are. Zowie! I do happen to have a poster (theatrical) for the third one apparently---and that was just an accident. (I had gotten the poster for SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE and then saw the one for SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE 3. I thought it was all the same series until I took a second look at the posters and realized they were separate series that I had never seen before. I still have not seen the SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE series...) Glad I have that third poster now.I regret not getting my hands on the Sorority House Massacre one sheet when I saw it available! You're lucky to have that one! The film didn't really catch my interest as much as the Slumber Party films so I just let it go...but it is a really good poster!

The film didn't really catch my interest as much as the Slumber Party films so I just let it go...but it is a really good poster!I looked them up on eMovieposter.com. S-lumber Party 1 usually seems to go for a good price ($100+), but not (you are right) what those on eBay are asking.
It seems to be a less common find along with SHM2, which I'm assuming is much rarer!
As for the prices of Slumber Party's one sheets...I think they're just ridiculously overpriced. No one is buying them at those prices and they're not even rare...you can usually find listings for the first film and they clearly aren't selling since it's always from the same sellers. I'll admit that I probably overpaid for mine...but it was a bidding war and I really wanted it!
The only one that seems to be really rare is SPM2's theatrical one sheet. I haven't seen a single one of those, while the small video poster has popped up a few times the last few months.
Overall the first film's poster is much more common than the other two films...but SPM3 seems to be much less desired and thus priced lower. I got mine at a bargain and the current one I see for sale is priced pretty decently.
Hopefully we'll both get what we want at reasonable prices!
That French Laura poster looks beautiful, Thierry. I didn't realize it was linenbacked though, what gives? ;D
There are two known copies of this poster worldwide, one in Japan in bad shape, and mine, both linenbacked. So when you find that folded copy, please please please give me a holler. I'll be waiting.
:)

Hello, poster friends! It's been a while since I posted here. Lately, I've been filling my empty wallspace with travel posters and pictorial maps moreso than movie posters (though I still do have Mexican movie posters up on the wall).
Anyway, here are some newly-framed posters up on the wall.

Deke! You came through with some very nice posters, indeed. My favorite is your Mexico travel poster. Those are really hard to find in nice condition, aren't they? It looks fantastic! Okie

I was finally able to get more frames and did some reorganization of my walls. I took down all of my old Shout Factory posters (they were in cheap frames and falling apart) and put a few that continued the theme of slasher posters.
I put up Killer Workout, Sorority House Massacre (1 and 2), and the Last Slumber Party.

I also took down a few old video store posters I had in cheap frames in my room and replaced them.
I put up Valley Girl, The Vals, and Snowballing while moving Tomboy to the end of the wall.

I'm at the point where I'm running out of wall space and have room for maybe three or four more posters if I'm lucky.
Definitely hoping to move into a bigger place sooner rather than later so I can get more hung up and properly displayed, I hate having so many beautiful posters put away!
I'm digging them. Most are not what I'd go after--but I still dig it. I have an ANGEL (I think), but not sure about any of the sequels. I also have a SORORITY HOUSE MASSACRE--but that sequel poster is a wowzer. Never saw that before, I don't think. I have (I think) a VALLEY GIRL...but that VALS poster has intrigued me. i think I've mentioned it before.I still remember how proud I was to finally have a "full" wall when I completed the Angel trilogy posters and hung them up. I only have the video posters for all three so I'll have to grab the theatrical posters sometime since I love the movies that much - and Betsy Russell. ;D

In the spirit of Halloween, and because my kids asked me to, I decided to unearth this little guy and put it up for a month. It is unfortunately too large to fit the frame so I folded back the credits part at the bottom. It still looks okay and it's actually the first time I see it since I bought it almost 10 years ago.

Beautiful! This film and Barbarella are amongst films where I adore the poster art way more than the film itself.
Nice, and I really love that custom frame (I believe you mentioned once that your brother-in-law built it for you)!

Thanks Okie. I now have 3 posters up on my walls, which I think is the most I've had since college when my walls where covered (à la Mel ;))

If you had asked me to guess which one of the many hundreds of posters I have in my collection my wife would let me display in our new (ish) apartment, I don't think this one would have made the top 100 guesses. It's nice to be surprised occasionally! (She thinks this French poster for TCM is 'Warhol-esque' so was happy to give it a pass. Lucky me!
