I am liking this size more and more. Here are the few I have accumulated over the past couple of years by chronological order.

If this had been a poker game, Thierry would have had a pair of aces, and Michael would have shown him his royal flush.

This is why I opened this thread. So that everybody can show their gear.
I need to get that Barbarella at some point, although someone told me that Fonda is slightly out of focus up close. Is it true?

Some nice 40x60s here - good thread!
I particularly like this Alien one above - of all the non-Bond things to collect, and to break it up a little, I decided a little while ago to get back into the Alien franchise. So thanks for this, T, bet these are hard to come by!?

That is one magnificent six Schan.

Never seen that Mad Max before. I like it.. :)

New one for my Polanski and Deneuve collections.

I love that MAD MAX poster! Now I need to track one down.

O.K. For the doubters on this forum who think "outing" posters here makes NO difference. Here's the proof that just a picture posted will create interest....
After posting my Supergirl 4shts, the next day I thought I would see if I could find the last one, as I believe there was 3 produced. I couldn't believe my luck, I found it, on a buy it now. A bit expensive, but put an offer in. The short story is I missed out as the fellow selling it let me know there was "all of a sudden loads of interest in Supergirl Posters, and he'd sold a few that had been sitting on the internet for ages...
This is part of his reply:-
Dear paul,
Very sorry about that.
All seemed a bit unusual as it had gone from no interest on them for some time to offers on both within 24 hours.
You guys wanted proof, this fellow does not go on forums, so could not have know of what had been posted on here, but has now expressed an interest in joining them...
-
But such market activity could follow the posting of any postage image and subsequent discussion on any thread in this forum Paul surely? Not just those listed in the mid-auction thread. Your Supergirl posters produced numerous positive comments - I liked them as well - Thierry said he wanted to get one and Ari said this title always sells well - endorsements from two well-respected collectors. Had they taken a contrary view and been impolite enough to express it would seem more probable that the seller would not have received such interest - even offers from only two or three other people (not me I hasten to add) might be described as "loads of interest" if there had previously been none.
Mark
-
Nice bit of proof, Paul.
How do you and Mark, (and everyone else) think about this as all fair game? It is at the end of the day, though my personal morals prevent me from outing an auction (if I don't have any direct interest in it) and so if I think there is a poster a member will like I will let them know privately.
It's the same as anything that has rarely or never been seen before - interest in it will peak when exposed.
-
Interesting Paul. I'm not surprised by the sudden interest. For those who like researching before buying the endorsement in this forum might have been a good incentive.
But there could be other factors. Maybe a re-run of that film somewhere else. .who knows!!
But an interesting point for sure.

-
Mark, that was my point exactly. Anything posted on a forum can, and will create interest. I have seen it before, but this happened recently so I thought it was a good time to mention it.
The dealers and outing crowd have said give us proof, well here's one example that wasn't set-up, it just happened. The fact Dealers post their wears on here is the biggest proof for me thought...
Mind the fellow who sold the Supergirl posters said it was a London buyer... ;)
-
Not guilty!
-
So basically, we should never show pictures or talk about ANY poster, because it can potentially make more people interested in getting it, thus making the price of that poster go up, and spoil it for those who wanted to buy it?
Oh please.
-
Not quite, but read it which ever way you want.
-

That's why I only post pics of posters I already own - let those prices rise, baby, rise! ;)
-
Not quite, but read it which ever way you want.
That's how I read it also.
I do notice a lot on this forum that certain items and themes have gained steam and become "cooler" if some people post, seems others follow.
I wouldn't blame the mid auction thread for this as much as new acquisitions thread.
I don't know what price the ones above were selling for but I do know that every supergirl daybill I have had in the last 14 years sold very quickly. I'd buy a dozen in a flash.
-
One could draw a parallel between this and the "outing" saga, that sharing a photo of a particular poster, genre, etc., could cause people to gain interest in the item(s), and potentially increase competition. It's not a big mystery. Amazing that a thread about one of the coolest formats has to have this saga rehashed..
Getting back to 40x60s..
-
I'd love to have even one, Brandon. One has yet to enter the personal stable here...
But i'm always on the lookout. coffee

Don't stay on the lookout for a 40x60 too much longer, Jeff. Thanks to this thread, the demand for them is skyrocketing! faint2.gif

I better get crackin', then, Brandon. As you said.. the 40x60s will be flying off the shelves now. GoOn.gif

You can cut them in half and have two quads!
-
I do notice a lot on this forum that certain items and themes have gained steam and become "cooler" if some people post, seems others follow.
That's my take too. Strange that it has just the opposite effect on me. Not that the poster would become less appealing, but I would not be able to go for it as will associate it with that person..so most like copying someone's else taste.
But i see what you mean Ari.
-
As Neo says, back to the posters...
I'm posting this U.K. 6sht, as it will never have the Quad size piece with the title on that is missing. So it will now always be a 60x40...

Aside from mine I've only seen one more on EMP, which sold for $440 last October. Are these that rarescarce?

They have sold a number of times at Heritage, from $59.00 to about $275.00 (inc the BP):
http://movieposters.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=54+790+231&chkNotSold=0&Ntk=SI_Titles&Nty=1&Ntt=return+of+the+jedi+40%22+x+60%22&ic4=KeywordSearch-071515
And EMP has sold a total of 5 copies, ranging from 61.00 to the 440.00 copy you mentioned, Vick.

Thanks Jeff. So 6 total since 2005. Is that more or less on par with other 40x60s in terms of rarescarcity?
-
Maybe it's yours that sold 6 times. Maybe you own the only one. Which means that since I need to get one at some point, I might pay you a visit one of these days and it could turn ugly.
T
-
Sure thing, Vick. cheers
I just counted the HA copies and they also have sold 5. So, that's 10 between those 2 auction sites (and who knows how many have been sold on ebay, possibly), unless as T said, some of those are the same copy selling over and over.
As far as rarescarcity.. I dont know.. one of the SW gurus like Mike (Undead) would have to let you know.
-

there were the 2 on EMP (one of which is mine) plus the 5 on HA, so 7 total. I've always wondered where 40X60s fall in the grand scheme of things... certainly some nice ones in this thread, fo' shizzle.

Not scarce at all, just a lot of people holding on to them, same with the advance. I had a roll of these in the late 90's early 00's and had trouble getting much for them because they were all over the place like Jaws posters then suddenly they just started to dwindle until they come up like they do now.

Oh thanks again Mike for that roll! eyeroll

I once had a customer that collected Clint Eastwood posters and he wanted something big to put up on his walls. He left it up to me to find something appropriate. In an issue of MCW there was a monthly ad from The Movie Gallery (remember them?) and among Marty's list of goodies was a selection of 40x60's from a variety of films which included FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY, and MAGNUM FORCE. I decide to take a chance on MAGNUM FORCE, figuring that it was the cheapest of the Clint's ($40), it was probably the same as the 1-sheet, and if my Clint collector didn't buy it, I wouldn't have much trouble selling it to someone else. I ring up Marty, reserve the poster, and send him a check. A couple of days later UPS delivers a huge tube; I open it, expecting to see a large version of the MAGNUM FORCE 1-sheet, and am floored. It is definitely NOT the same as the 1-sheet. You have probably seen this poster before but in case you haven't, well, you know that one publicity shot you usually see from this movie, the one close-up of Clint from the shoulders up, holding the magnum straight up so the barrel of the gun looks like a cannon? Take that shot, blow it up to 40x60, and that's it. Guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. The "whoa" factor of this poster is astonishing. I call my customer and tell him I have something for him and he says he'll be in on Saturday. Come Saturday I'm laying in wait for him, Clint and howitzer hanging up behind me. He finally comes in, takes one look at it and says "I'll take it!" "But I haven't told you how much it is!" "I don't care!! I WANT that!!" He went home one happy man that day. Today, if you can find one, it's a $700.+ poster and back in the day you could get one for about $150.
-
^ Got a pic of this, you could post, by chance?
-
I think it's on google images somewhere. I know it's shown in the pressbook. Hell, I wish I had kept it! For what it's worth, MAGNUM FORCE has different images on all the poster sizes; the 1-sheet is different from the insert, which is different from the 22x28, etc.
