For a while, now, there has been ongoing "dialog" about a couple issues: First, the signature banner size that sellers and dealers can use. Sizes have varied, as we all have seen. Second was the maximum number of daily auction or selling posts allowable in both the Dealer's Forum and the For Sale section.
Nothing was ever really set in stone- until now.
From this point forward, 2 new Rules, are in place, with the blessing of both Holiday and Thierry:
1. Maximum Signature Advertising Banner Size: 100 x 550 pixels
2. Maximum Number of Dealer/Seller Posts per day: ONE allowed in each Thread. (So 2 allowed, in total, per day, per dealer or seller). In addition, no later "bumping" of a post to have it hop to the top of the list, either.
If any signature ad banner resizing needs to be done, please do so.
And please honor the "one post per day" Rule in the Dealer's Forum & For Sale threads, as mentioned above. It is not open for debate.
This is simply all about keeping the playing field even for everyone.
-
I of course will abide by this.
But, to make it clear, whether you have 3,000 auctions a week, or 300 auctions a week, or one a week, you still get the same number of posts?
And whether you auction 3 times a week, or once a week, or once a month, or once a year, you still get the same number of posts?
So if I were to split my company into three, then I would instantly get to post three times as much?
I just don't want to inadvertently break these new rules.
Thanks.
-
This new rule equates to 2 posts per day, every day = 14 posts per week, for any new auction being advertised.
;)

;)
So does this mean that if someone has an auction a year from now, they can or can't post about it every day for 365 days?
I want to get this straight, so I don't inadvertently break a rule.
-
Each new auction is allowed a max of 2 posts per day...one in the Dealer thread, one in the For Sale thread.
It's to keep anyone from posting multiple times about the SAME auction on the SAME day.
As far as how far in advance you can advertise an auction... that would be at each seller's discretion.
Advertising an auction a year ahead, tho, seems a bit extreme (but I do understand the underlying context of your question). ;)
-
OK. I had $100,000+ in auctions closing tonight, and I posted about it this morning, and didn't post again, for fear of breaking the rules!
Something tells me that everyone here knows about all the main auctions, and the endless posting strikes me as serious overkill.

If I posted too much or in the wrong place, I humbly apologize. Jeff, please delete any posts I made that broke rules (including this one, if applicable).

Bruce should be banned for using the term "unfolded." :P

A few points have been raised recently about people that have posted twice, in the same day, in either the Dealer's board or the For Sale board. Because the vast majority of people who may post items for sale on APF are NOT dealers (and therefore would not usually list posters for sale in the Dealer's area), rule #2 has been slightly amended.
Any non-dealer can post up to 2x per day in the For Sale board.
If, however, a non-dealer wants to place a post on the Dealer's board, then the original rule, of one post per board per day (2 total), will still apply.
The original 1/1 rule still applies to all dealers and auction houses, as they are the ones who will usually be posting on both boards on any given day, if they so choose.
cheers

Can you please clear something up for us, Jeff.
If a member posts a new topic, is that member permissible to reply to questions from other members even if they have reached their two post limit?
This seems pretty reasonable IF replying to questions only.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi Vectis..
Sure..questions can be replied to. ;)
The 2 post/day limit applies to promotional or auction type posts.

OK, we just wanted to be clear and make everyone aware of this as we didn't want to cause any offence or inconvenience to the forum and its members.
Thank you.

In kowing and all-seeing anticipation of The Next Rule, I have actually posted an item for discussion in only one forum, even though it has the potential for cross-breeding into at least one other forum. (The Bond poster in the Bond Genre forum as opposed to also in the New Acquisitions forum)
This is demonstrating awareness for needless spamming and the above one-post-per-day rule, and should be rewarded I believe.
So, can a multiple demonstration of such be rewarded with a token post? And if so, can I donate it to a person of my choice? And if so, what would be the seven restrictions to such magnanimous philanthropy?
Many thanks in anticipation of the clarification.
-
The 2 per day rules apply to SALES and AUCTION-type posts only.

here's something I know
Rules are rules for a reason. Generally they are so everyone gets treated equally
some people like to figure out ways to skirt the rules, scheme to get around the rules or even just flatly ignore them
the result is that it irritates people, including the forum moderator who then has to listen to the complaints, take time to message the offender(s), take time to move or delete such threads and get rather aggravated that people put them in such position and then some even gripe and whine that they don't like how they're being treated.
When you're dealing with people who are adults and who not only should know better, but really do know better and do what they do on purpose, then all you can think is that it's rather childish.
Obey the rules, respect the moderator and respect that this is someone else's house.

NEW RULE : cannot have multiple members (dealers) advertising the same sale on the same day via more than one post

NEW RULE : cannot have multiple members (dealers) advertising the same sale on the same day via more than one post
Maybe delete or merge the for sale and dealers sections so there isn't 2 places for the same thing? Remove temptation.
Yeah for us regulars who read the forum via the filter that shows every new post in a concise list, the duplicates are a bit much after a while.

Might be something to consider, Steve. Maybe just have the one thread For Sale/Auction/Trade and blend the Dealer thread into that. And it makes it easy and no duplications, either.

I don't think I agree with that.
the two threads don't entirely serve the same purpose
and who cares if someone wants to use both their available posts for the same ad?
you don't have to read both threads, do you?

True, true and no. ;)

To clarify my post, HA has both their sunday movie poster AND signature auctions being advertised, twice a day. They do this by having 2 seperate members, Grey and Mr.Carteron. I don't meant to call anyone out but from a userability point of view this is 4 big ass posts with big ass pictures using big ass data each day (like Steve I read the forum using the filter)
By this logic Bruce from EMP could post 6 times daily, twice for each tues, thurs and sunday auction PLUS have phil post twice a day about the major auction lined up.

If you haven't noticed, I have been posting less and less about my auctions, and mostly I only do so to aggravate the tiny number of people who care about such stuff.
If an auction company gets its buyers from the select group of people here (all of whom know about their auctions without their posting), then they are in big trouble.
I say lift the limits on posts, and I will promise to NEVER make another auction related post again!
-
Well I applaud you for your self restraint (seriously) but last time I checked this forum was for poster collectors. So all good those who want to join and talk posters even if you happen to be a dealer, but to post exclusively from an advertising POV that stuff unfortunately needs to be policed (wish I had a emoticon here)
If its irksome to me and Steve arguably the greatest people on the forum then it's SOMETHING I would say. Already the platform has its limits but to also deal with ads is just annoying UNLESS they give T and Holiday some money. Anyways its not my forum but again from a userability POV it bothers me and I assume others. If I wasn't a member I would see even LESS great posts and MORE ads because guests are blocked on certain threads - so why would iwant to join?
-
me and Steve arguably the greatest people on the forum
I appreciate this recognition

if they're posting twice in the same section on the same day - they shouldn't be, as that is a violation of the rules, which are explicit and easy to understand.
-
There used to be no specified limits on Dealer or Seller posts, but the board became inundated by seller posts that would be added to, bumped up or were even spilling over into the General Boards.
BECAUSE OF THAT, the rules were put into place, limiting the number of daily F/S and Dealer posts, including this one, by Holiday:
http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,7060.0.html
It was having to 'clamp down' when those kinds of posts were getting out of hand. T'was the ol' "give an inch, take a mile" scenario.

I love dealer posts.
Especially those with plenty of pictures.
Open the floodgates.

Starting tomorrow, we will be making a slight change to the posting board rules. Ive received a number of PMs from individuals who list (and can only list) in the For Sale /Auction/Trade board and have mentioned that Dealers who duplicate post here (as well as in the Dealer board) on an almost daily basis, are causing their own F/S posts to get quickly pushed down the line and buried.
Because private sellers (non dealers) cannot post in the Dealer board, it seems only fair that dealers and auction houses should have just the one board they can post to. So beginning tomorrow, the For Sale/Auction/Trade board will be reserved for non-dealers and non-auction houses only (ie: individuals either selling privately, auctioning on ebay or other sites, or if they have an item consigned to MPB, HA, EMP etc).
Dealers, auction houses and private sellers can still post up to 2 posts per day in the respective boards, so that hasn't changed. But no more duplicate dealer posts in the For Sale,/Auction/Trade board. This area is now reserved for "the little guy;" it's about it being fair for one & all.
And yes, T knows about this change, too, in case anyone was wondering. :)

what if I'm selling more stuff than usual?
Or if I have many auctions running at one time?
I will have 'overlapping auctions' going on, can I overlap my dealer posts?
does it matter if I post 2 times at 3am, or should I space out my posts every twelve hours?
if I'm selling in 2 places at the same time, can I double up my posts, or do I have to act like I don't know the other seller?
what about if I put my shoes on backwards, do I have to post my afternoon post before my morning post?
>:D

Bravo

Does it matter if you have multiple auctions that are run as separate units? If someone has say, a weekly auction plus a "major auction" can they have different accounts and post twice daily for each of those? Does a dealer who runs one auction with 30 items that lasts for 30 days get to post twice a day for those thirty days? If a member asks a question of an auction in response to their second post, must they wait until the next day to reply, and does that reply then count as one of their two allowed posts? Any limit on signature sizes or dealer in-fighting?
Please have clearly defined rules. If I am any part of this problem you can simply delete my account (I won't be offended).
It is great that you guys have a place to congregate and talk and share. It is good for the hobby, and would be good even if it were a "dealer-free" zone.
-
who decides whop is a big and who is a little guy?
Dont know why I care I rarely post FS.
-
"little guy" = non dealers / individuals who are wanting to sell their posters; that's why those words were in quotes. ;)
-
ok I get that, but for example where do I fit?
I sell maybe $5000 a year MAX (gross)
Hardly enough to eat off, and mostly selling to support my own collection.
I don't mind, but curios, as theres a lot of people like me.

it would be my guess Ari, that you fall into a gray area.
not really a dealer, but you probably have to choose which sub-forum to post in, as you can't post in both, per rules
