Cannibal Holocaust one sheet question
« on: May 25, 2011, 04:56:28 PM »
What's the deal with this one? Is it THAT rare? I collect posters but I'm not much of an expert. At a convention recently a guy offered me 350 euros for it. But I had it signed by the director instead and took it home. Starting to think about selling it now...

Well, considering the extreme cult status (however small, they are passionate) and the infamous nature of the film, I'd say it is very valuable. It's a sort of landmark in boundary-pushing cinema.

I've NEVER had one and this is exactly the type of thing I collect and deal in. They are a darn sight rarer than any Alamo posters. A friend of mine tried for 5 years to get one, he finally managed a few weeks back. Also note (as we know) this film had a VERY limited release as far as countries go, so theres not a lot of material on it in any format.

I think you did the right thing in taking it home. Here's a couple of pieces I have...

Schan might know better than me on this one, I'm sure it's first release Japanese campaign book.

And this is the obscure U.K. video release poster, before they banned it...

I defer to Armin on this one.  He has probably forgotten more than I ever knew about Japanese material from that era, especially within the exploitation genre.

That said, both of those are very cool, especially that video poster.

Dont let the Video poster go cheap. Anything VIDEO NASTY like this sells like hot cakes. I would "invest" in that over any of the theatrical posters for the film.

No, Jeff. Not mine.
I did however just sell one of these ANTHROPOPHAGUS re-releases under the newer, more palatable title...

I bought 4 or 5 of those from moviegoods years ago (the gut munching one). great poster, that sold like hot cakes. And yes they were legit. but shame they were in SUCH bad condition. The movie sounds better than it is, but George Eastman, well, it can't be THAT bad.

Sorry, I only saw your question just now. This is indeed the pamphlet from the first release. There were no pamphlets printed for the very limited second release a few years ago. The poster images from the first and second release are also different.

In the making of interviews on the DVD, they talk about this scene.  The girl was sitting on a bicycle seat mounted on a pole and the part coming out of her mouth is balsa wood.  The director was amazed at how well she could balance and be perfectly still.

Actually it is very hard to find. When the film was rereleased to promote the DVD that came out back then, it was only shown in a handful of cinemas in Japan (I would estimate less than ten). So subsequently there were not many posters printed.
