Cine Poster = French reprints
« on: July 01, 2010, 12:00:16 AM »
There is a company in France (or there was, since I don't believe it exists anymore) that reprinted a lot of French posters in the 80s.  The most popular titles.  You can see their logo down below.  So if you collect French posters and find this logo on one of your babies, it's a reprint.  A perfect reprint, perfect size and printing, but a reprint nevertheless.

This said, I trashed a bunch of posters today and I came across these 4, all Cine Poster, all large French size (47x63in) and folded.  I was about to trash them too when I thought that someone on here might not be as anal retentive as I am, and want them.  They're in perfect folded condition.  So if you want them, email me, first come, first served, and all of them go to the same person, free of charge.  If not, no biggie, to the trash they go.

WTF, you never trash a poster without passing a defect/title report by me first!

These actually go back quite a bit further than the 1980s. French dealers tell me they were printed at the same time as the theater ones, but were sold commercially in stores. When we learned of them we checked EVERY single French poster we ever sold (a massive job) and found a bunch of these we sold as theater used, and we e-mailed every single buyer and offered them a refund or a partial refund, even though some of the sales went back 9 years!

Well, a French dealer (cybermovieposters2010 on Ebay) just tried to rip me off with a "SONIS" commercial reprint of the Casino Royale French 1 panel. I paid $130 for it. I don't know if I would have caught it had Thierry not brought it up here.  So watch out for both SONIS and CinePoster reprints of French one panels:

It's too bad the dealer mislabeled it as an original.  For a reprint, it's pretty decent quality, although the paper is thinner than other one panels I've handled.  It's also short - 45" x 60"

Mel,

Sonis is a legit printer.  They have been reprinting posters in recent years, but this logo and poster you're displaying is most certainly original.  Ask the seller for the complete printer name and get back to me.

Ok, will do. Mine is about 45.5 x 60.5, which is shorter than the normal 47x63.

Other than size, it does match what Heritage sold a couple of weeks ago here and what Cinemasterpieces is selling on Ebay.

Here are some more pics of mine:

Yes, it's original.  Size vary a lot with French posters.  What's important is the printer name, and with Ateliers Lalande, you're in the clear.

French one-panels were 47 x 63 forever, and then many went to around 45 x 60, and more recently many are back to 47 x 63.

If in doubt, do some research!

Good work guys.  I scored this Deliverance French 1 panel from Bruce a few days ago, and I was concerned for about a split second when I saw the Sonis logo comment.  Thanks Mr. Brie for clearing that up.  It's a pretty sweet poster, even though it has an extra fold line thanks to UPS bending the package in half, but the emovieposter team resolved the issue with excellent service.  Here is a good song for APF :Dhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tybugI5CkIs&feature=related
