27x41 frames w/ 27x40 posters
« on: October 19, 2014, 03:24:03 AM »
I'm curious to know if many of you buy 27x41 frames for use with both 27x41 and 27x40 posters? I ask because I'd like the flexibility this would allow, but recently I used a 41" frame (Hollywood Poster Frames) with a 40" poster and I'm not fond of the look. Do any of you use something behind the 40" poster if framing in this manner? If so, what? If it matters, I plan on purchasing the frames from Spotlight Displays.

One inch of white/nothing bothers you that much?

Did you put the poster all the way to the top or did you center it?

Centering would be the way to make that 1" gap less obvious.. just split the difference.

I tried centering it, but A) I'm not patient and B) the repeated process of trying to center a poster in this type of frame tries ones patience. I guess I'll try the 41" Spotlight frames and see how I like it.

The Spotlight frames as they ship are worse because there is no opaque backing.  Just another layer of Pet-g.  You will see all the way back to the wall.

Use a piece of acid free construction paper to fill.

Either that or an acid free backing board? Where would one get large size acid free construction paper? Art supply store?

Sorta.  The Spotlight frames are sensitive to the thickness of the material placed in it.  When it is too thick, like if foamboard is used, the frames won't close completely and gaps will appear at the corners.

Matte board can replace the back pet-g safely.  The construction paper can be found at the same places.  Art supply stores, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.

The only time I framed something smaller than the frame I was using, the poster had a white border...so when placed against the white backing board, you really couldn't tell at all.

Yep - this is what I have done - white acid free foamcore backing + approx 27x40 Aussie one sheets + centred in the frame = looks just great in my opinion (in frames that are 27x41)

Just so you guys know, if you are going to use something really thick for a backing, we can cut the Standard Border Frames to accommodate up to 1/2 inch, the Wide Border frames come ready to handle 1/4 inch.

Thanks!
