considering that Fiona Bruce is only a hostess, the statement about her dismissing the item as a piece of plastic gives the wrong impression that she is an expert who doesn't know her stuff.

It's the typical "out of context" quote that is so often done, to make people look "otherwise."  :P

Yup by reading that article in the above link she was obviously joking. I hate headlines, always going for ratings, more sales, or clicks to improve page views/stickiness.
mostly bothers me in science news.

It's the kind of comment made on Antiques Roadshow here, when someone has gotten a wonderful high appraisal for an American Indian earthenware pot, for example, and the appraiser might say something like, "Not too shabby for a hunk of clay...."  ;)

yes I agree its  lazy headline from the independent and yes Fiona Bruce is a presenter, however I was more interested in the helmet than any tactics to draw in an audience to read.
Its no worse than some of the tag lines for some movies!

I always seem to miss the "good" Antiques Roadshow ...when I watch it all they seem to have are teapots...

The owner said he paid a few thousand a few years ago for it, so it's not like he didn't know what he had  eyeroll

And paying a few thousand pounds only a couple years ago and now being told it was worth in the realm of 50K pounds, is quite the appreciation in value!  :o

It's a buyers market though isn't it, Saying something is worth 40 to 50k and actually selling it for that are two different things. Although with the new Star wars movies on the horizon who knows.

That's for sure... like anything.. until it sold for 40-50K pounds... it's always uncertain.  ;)

Another 'expert' with little to no regard of the value that certain pop culture items bring, not to mention the spending habits of folks who grew up in the 70s and 80s.

Well it is plastic and some other materials.  Don't mess with Fiona - she can speak three languages fluently  thumbsup.gif

I love the show. But usually they quote " insurance value".
I think generally they use a price of you wanted to get something like it fast what you might pay or what you might get if you hold out for that right buyer or bidders. Which makes better television.
Again I like the show a lot. Especially Rudi
