Linen gloves?

Just curious if any of you with the REALLY expensive stuff wear gloves when you handle your more precious pieces, and if so what sort?

I do not have any REALLY expensive stuff but I have on occasion worn plain old white cotton gloves (especially when handling anything that might be a little glossy - not that I have many of those ;) )

Same here... No really expensive stuff and no gloves.  I just wash my hands from time to time.

I do use cotton gloves when I know I'm going to be handling a bunch of posters (usually during photographing).  However, I just went to look up where I got them and came across this:

Those should be much cheaper...

^Agree. I have cotton gloves. Useful if you handle posters with a black glossy background. And even so..I managed to get "my hands" on my Clint. Literally.  girly2.gif

I always wash my hands before photographing my posters. Else, no gloves...  hola.gif  I do use dirty socks to wipe dust off of some arrivals...

I made a mistake a few months back, forgot to wash my hands and touched 2 semi gloss posters. Both posters now ruined....$600 down the drain. Its quite noticeable also, a thumb print right at the top.

I now use Sensicare silk nitrile gloves when handling all posters, there powder free and work great.

Just wondering--

Is there not a product of some type out there that could be used to remove a fingerprint from a glossy poster? Unlike non glossy paper, where oil from one's finger would soak into the paper immediately, I would think the gloss coat would act as a bit of a barrier.

If gently wiped immediately, wouldn't that remove the print (or most of it)?

I tried numerous things immediately after it happened, and nothing. I kid you not, I wiped it off like 30 seconds after it happened and it didnt even smear. As a last resort I tried a damp cloth and even a damp cloth with a tad of soap, still nothing. Poster is perfect, but the fingerprint is still there.

Whats funny about it is that I wasn't even eating or working on anything, just the oils from the skin got on it and BAM. Its there forever.

That's a bummer, Aj...

Food oils or vegetable oils are a whole other critter.. and it sounds like skin oil makes for more permanence, too, unfortunately.   :(

AJ try talcum powder. Just let it on for few hours and gently brush it off. It worked on mine.

I once was swatting at a fly with a poster tube and over did it crashing into my Godfather B3.  Left a nice little mark on it.  Fucking flies...  I hate them more than anything.

I thought for some reason lighter fluid or Heptane could remove fingerprints/oils from glossy paper?
