I don't doubt that your consignor could make the most money at CM but how long will it take?  What % will sell in 6 months, 12 months, 2 years?

I am curious as to how a single collector could part possession with a bunch of posters like that with the knowledge that it might take months if not years before they received the full proceeds of sale. I do not doubt that Dave has an impressive knack for obtaining top dollar but there seems to be quite an element of risk for the consignor.

what risk? with FIXED PRICE consignment the risk for the client/consignor is zero if they don't need the money right away and they are willing to wait. Its not like we hold the posters hostage until they sell. If they haven't sold after awhile and the client wants them back we will send them back. We do kindly ask for a minimum of six months to try and sell something at a FIXED PRICE.

and really, what are the alternatives? He could submit them to an auction company and have them auctioned at no reserve which can be VERY RISKY depending on many factors. Honestly though, the odds are that he would make out very well if he did choose to auction them, but there is no guarantee that he would. He could also choose to sell them for cash, but to who? a dealer? a collector from a message board? and he would definitely not get top dollar for them this way.

I can answer that one from experience... 25% on fixed priced consignments. 

I've consigned with Dave before and have always been VERY happy with the results.   It does take time though, sometimes months/years.  But as he said, if your not in a hurry...

I have recommended people to Dave myself, when it is an item that may have trouble finding a buyer at retail or near retail, or where the seller is risk/adverse. As Dave points out, there is no chance of losing money when consigning to him!

The risk in a long term consignment is not knowing for certain that the security, insurance and ownership records for the poster(s) will be properly maintained by the seller over months/years. I am talking generally and my view of Dave has always been that he is a trustworthy person.

It would probably go for $2,500 at auction.  That's what the LA Confidential (Canadian) and Matrix Lightning went for and they're comparably rare.

I've always loved this Kill Bill.  The texture of the paper itself makes it stand out.  Far, far superior to that ugly Matrix lightning poster, imo.

I would consider them far less rare than the Canadian and less than lightning.  I'm not saying that there are a bunch around, but they aren't at those other levels.

Why doesn't Dave use some of those phat Cinemasterpieces profits to build a decent site?  It's state of the art - for 1997!  Just a bunch of basic HTML pages in a table structure. No drop-down menus?

It should be searchable by decade, size, country, genre, star, price.

Seriously though, there are actually several reasons why we keep it the way it is.

In its current format every page is easily found by and indexed by google. The importance of this can not be understated. If we had a search box, the page search results would be created on the fly from a database....and those results would not be found by google.

The site works. It ain't broke, so why fix it?

I do all the updating myself. I add all the inventory. The system I have is easy for me, so why switch?

It would take months of my time and tons of cash. New software would have to be bought and I'd have to learn a whole bunch of new tricks........and I'm an old dog so......

We are way too busy.

If we spend a fortune updating the site, then we'd have to raise our prices even more (yes, it is possible  ).

If it ever starts to not work as well as we'd like (by not generating enough income) then we will consider updating it.

Until then...... I'm sorry but you'll just have to suffer with no drop down menus or a search box.
