How do you store your posters?
« on: May 11, 2010, 08:45:14 PM »
I've been using Bill Cole's mylar sleeves and backing boards. They are kinda pricey once shipping is added, but they've worked great for me.

My linen backed posters are rolled in groups, bagged on the ends (bags made from polyethylene (PE)) and placed in PE tubes. Folded posters are stored in PE zip lock bags which are stacked in PE boxes!

bought an A0 plan chest from flea bay, and acid free tissue from my art supplier, line the drawer with the tissue and a lyer between each poster

Also throw some silca gel sachets in the drawers for good measure

Polybags with acid-free backing boards from bagsunlimited (you can put a daybill on each side of the board/bag and store them stacked!)

The stack is then placed in one of those under-the-bed plastic storage containers for further safety.

By stacking them in this way it helps to get the hard fold lines out (although they never completely disappear).

I used to do bags and boards until it got too expensive, which was at about 500 posters.  If I bagged and boarded them all, I'd go broke.  10 flat file drawers like Paul, and the rest are in about 110 or so tubes.
Best regards,

Holiday

Rich, you need to start auctioning more posters as you clearly have way too much free time...

I just received a heap of rolled posters.

Question is do I attempt to flatten them out and store in my flat file cabinet

or

buy tubes for them and and store rolled.

Removing rolled posters from their tubes can be pretty annoying so would rather store them flat.

Cheers all.

It doesn't make a difference in terms of preservation.  If you keep them in a tube, make sure you have enough posters rolled together to avoid edge crushing.  Over time, the weight of the posters can damage the edge if you keep the tube vertical, but if you have enough posters in the tube, they all support each other.  If you keep the tube horizontal, you might notice some waving on the posters over a long period of time.  Again, if you have enough posters in the tube, it won't show.  If you store your posters in a flat file, they might be more prone to manipulation damage.  It's a toss up.

I personally keep my folded posters in flat files and my rolled posters in tube.  It's a matter of preference, really.

cheers mate,

I am going to go down the rolled path.

Just started to flatten them out.

Using a poster tub to roll them the opposite way seems to flatten them out fine.
