An interview with the designer and artist Tom Beauvais
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:38:18 AM »
Hello all,

Continuing my series of exclusive interviews with film poster designs and illustrators, here's my just published article on Tom Beauvais, the man responsible for such classic British posters as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Fantastic Voyage, Mad Max and Zombie Flesh Eaters. Tom had a long and varied career and as well as working on film marketing and collaborating with the likes of Stanley Kubrick, he was also an accomplished and much-respected architectural illustrator, and images from throughout his working life are included in the article. It also features several never-before-seen poster concepts for the likes of Star Wars and Blade Runner.

The article can be viewed here.

I hope you all enjoy the read!

This made fascinating reading. I particularly enjoyed the photo in the Bateman studio with Tom Chantrell ! Thanks for posting this  :)

Excellent work as ever, Ed! Well done, I really enjoyed reading that. I think it's great that you're documenting the careers, stories and thoughts of these artists on your site, it's a very valuable resource.

The Star Wars concept is pretty interesting...I really like aspects of it, but Luke's hair is a bit distracting! I think Mr Chantrell pipped him there, but I adore Zombie Flesh Eaters, Butch and Sundance, Mad Max and Fantastic Voyage...such beautiful posters.

Thanks gentlemen!

Tob: I completely agree that the Star Wars doesn't match up to Chantrell's classic but I was thrilled when he showed me this as it's not every day you get to look at an original poster concept for a film as big as SW, and one that only a handful of people will have ever seen (until now).
