Question about Mylar film
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:16:03 PM »
Hi
I just joined this forum. I collect mainly locandina size posters from Italian movies from the 50s to the 70s. I am working on linen backing them by myself. Charlie has been a gold mine of pointers but in his posting about linen backing I don't understand what is the role of mylar film in the process. Any advice?

Thanks
Piercarlo

Hey Piercarlo... The mylar is use to transport the poster and move it around without hurting it.  It also creates a suction action between the two sheets when washing the poster with something like orvus as seen in this PM blogpost...

It also helps when placing the poster on the masa as you can be more agressive in pressing and removing all air pockets.  Most times you can simply lift the mylar after rolling it out and not have to touch the poster again until dry...
