Who gives me a tip on this book?
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:57:18 AM »
Last year I bought " Art Of The Modern Movie Poster" without knowing what to expect and I found it very useful and interesting: great photos, captions with sizes of posters, insight on the most famous designers, ..Just what I was looking for!
Now I'm considering whether to take this too: " A Century Of Movie Poster.." but I wouldn't buy two book too similar to each other.

Do any of you own them both and can tell me the main differences between the two and if I should take even the second?

I don't have the 1st one but I do have the 2nd (Century) and would recommend you skip it and buy something like Reel Art instead:

+1

This is a fantastic book with lots of info and great poster images. And very good used copies can be gotten thru Amazon for $3-8.00 plus shipping. I purchased my copy several years ago (thru an Amazon seller) for $4.99 + S/H of 3.50. It is in "like new" condition.

If you're looking for something a little bit more specialised then I thoroughly recommend the following;

Although focusing on the history of posters used throughout the UK over the last century it is still one of the best researched and most interesting books on the subject you're ever likely to find.

Thanks for the advice Chris, it looks really great!
 Maybe I can not afford one of these beautiful posters, but at least I enjoy them on the book!  ;)

I know very little about British posters but I have seen some on the forum and some of them are truly spectacular.
It could be a nice gift for my Christmas..

Thanks Paul!

I dont have the Art of the Modern poster, but I thought "a century of movie posters" was a decent read. basic descriptions of genre's, eras, and foreign posters, but they have some quality images of some great posters in there....its worth $10 to me any day.
