Need suggestions for 27"x41" one-sheet "snap" frames
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:39:43 PM »
I want to start displaying my US posters, and since I have so many, I want frames that allow me to easily swap in different posters. I have great frames from IKEA that fit Swedish and Spanish one-sheets, but they are too small for US posters. All my posters are from pre-1985 so the size has to be 41", not the newer 40" variant. They should be easy to hang on the wall with a simple hook.

I looked on Amazon but can't find anything suitable. Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend where I can buy these?

Second spotlight.  Robert is a good guy and the product is first rate.  It is exactly what you are looking for.  He sells in standard sizes and is willing to custom cut as well.

I ordered two right away  ;D

If they are what I'm looking for, I'll get a lot more for sure. Excellent!

Man, the few US one sheets I've seen you post are special.
What else you have?

No that is her little sister ;)

Anyway, that was a good question about my one-sheets - it turns out I almost have no photos! When I get the first frames I ordered I'll take the opportunity to take them out and photograph a few.

And here we go! I started out with some double features to maximize the effect. Doctors Faustus, Orloff and Hichchock ("HIS SECRET WAS A COFFIN NAMED DESIRE!") join forces with THE MANSTER!

How do you like the frames (I am assuming they are from Spotlight)?

I'm no longer a fan of the Spotlight displays.  They exert too much pressure on the poster, which causes permanent ripples over time.   So if you use them, be sure to rotate frequently and don't put expensive posters in them.

Have you tried putting a linenbacked poster in one Mel?  Just curious if the added tensile strength would help alleviate that problem...

The one spotlight frame I have has a linen backed poster in it and it works just fine.

I haven't had that problem.  I know you posted about it earlier, but I would like some more details.  Were you using the pet-g backing amterial, or had you converted to acryllic?  I am assuming the poster was placed inside the ridge on all 4 sides and only the inside most part of the outer frame was actually touching the glazing.  Pictures?

I took some before and after pics but can't find them. It's definitely happening.  It's not just the Spotlight frames. I have some generic snap frames at work that do the same thing.  If you leave a poster in them for too long, dozens of permanent ripples form along the pressure points. So I stopped putting valuable posters in the flip frames.

Of course, posters fare poorly in the Hollywood Poster Frames as well.  The little metal clips cause havoc at the pressure points, so there's no ideal solution to hanging posters.

The thinness of movie posters is just not conducive to hanging.  The linen-backed posters and thicker cardboard posters do fine in frames.

Mel, For the HPF style frames. I just used the two clips at the top thats it, none on the side and none on the bottom. So just the two clips at the top, letting the poster hang into place. No ripples at all that way!
