Why? Because when you are listing hundreds of items for sale it just isn't practical to go into extreme detail like that on every item. Not even the almighty emovieposter, or Heritage, or movieposterbid goes into intense detail like that on most of their items.

Sounds like I've given you an idea to edge out the competition.  Please correct me if I am wrong but cinemasterpieces is your day job right? It would take all of 90 seconds to write out a description like this.  @ say 100 posters that is only another 2.5 hours.  You might have to skip the porn but you can get it done...  Plus you could have automated descriptor for pin holes, storage wear, and rounded corners that only leaves the white scratches so now we are down to 30 seconds...  Come on!  I predicted this argument in the other thread...

However, if you ever want a job here in our P.D.D.D. (Poster Defect Describer Department), please submit your resume. :-*

Do I get to hang company posters at my home?

I'll tell you what Charlie...why don't you start your own movie poster auction company and try to edge out the competition with your awesome descriptions. We are doing more than fine over here, thank you for your concern.  :-*

Why don't you just accurately describe your posters!  Why would you want to half-ass your livelihood and be satisfied?  Once you stop learning and trying to better yourself what are you?  Doesn't that apply to businesses too.   Geez...  Some companies pay people to solicit direct customer feedback like this...

"Why don't you just accurately describe your posters!"

uh...we do. In fact we do a better job at it than 99% of the other poster sellers on ebay.

This is also part of the description. And no, we did not just add it. It was there from the start:

"Please examine our extra large images very carefully!! These detailed photos generally speak for themselves. We do not always list every little defect!! We try and list any that we think are important or those that may not be readily visible. We realize that nobody likes surprises.

Some  additional defects these cards may or may not have: edge wear, pin holes, general storage wear, writing or tape on the back, tiny tears, stains, dirt, etc."

Again, a large detailed photo is always the best description.

and, my livelihood is full-assed and more than satisfied, thank you for asking.  :-*

OK I tried...  Fair enough...  You do take good photos. IMO, the value add of a description of flaws to supplement a broad shotgun approach by grade, would only benefit potential buyers...  That's all, it is only my opinion, a poster buyer's opinion.

I'm sorry, but I personally disagree with the use of a comment like:
"Some  additional defects these cards may or may not have: edge wear, pin holes, general storage wear, writing or tape on the back, tiny tears, stains, dirt, etc."
in an item description.

IMHO, any damage like pin holes, writing or tape on the back of the poster (which isn't going to be evident in the pictures since you only show the front), tears, etc. should be explained in detail in the description for that particular poster. It's one thing if you can clearly see the damage in the pic (like a missing piece of paper, or a tear), but if there is significant damage to a poster, it should be explained in particular. Not "it MAY OR MAY NOT contain..." - which is meaningless.

I know that if I purchased a poster and found out that it had writing all over the pack, tape adhesive, etc., I wouldn't take "well, we sort of told you" as a reasonable response.

Yeah, well I once sold a "Cheese Cake" vinyl record to Christophe Gans (the director of Brotherhood of the Wolf); so HA!  :P He even signed a photo for me...  He was real happy with the way I detailed out the flaws of the cover, vinyl, and label (on both sides).  Just think what you could have gotten...

"Sheesh, if she was dressed like Charlie's avatar when she picked it up I would have given her the poster"

ME TOO. Unfortunately it was a website order. :'(

and enki, you probably don't often buy from Bruce, or Heritage, or Movieposterbid since they often use similar language to describe an imperfect poster. Again, when you are listing many items it just isn't practical to always list everything in detail.

HOWEVER...if there is tape on the back or some other significant defect that can not be seen in the photo we do always try to mention it. I personally hate getting posters with tape on the back if it wasn't disclosed in the description. Writing is common on the back of older posters and we usually don't mention it unless it is really bad.

A very minor defect that is clearly shown in our extra large detailed photo. The description is also crystal clear.

CONDITION/GRADE: C8-C9

EXCELLENT-NEAR MINT

This card has a few extremely minor imperfections. Not in perfect shape but still very presentable.

Some very minor storage wear.

The heart of my question had to do with the description of this card being called "Excellent-Near Mint" with those very obvious, 9 scratches. And yes, the super-sized photo does show these well, so that was never an issue. I was more curious about the parameters of the verbal description, since the 9 scratches are deep enough to show the white card stock underneath.

Had they been surface lines that had not impacted or broken thru the printed image, those, IMO, could then be described as "extremely minor imperfections" or even "minor surface wear." These, tho, do not appear "very minor," (again, IMO) as they are easily seen.

Dude; you're either blind or in denial...  They aren't on the curtains in the background, they are on the major star of the movie...  But I guess it is a lot easier to hide under a vale of vagueness, instead of limiting the potential selling price due to accurate descriptions and grades...

You are really starting to annoy me with this duck and cover approach...  Jeff has a very valid point.  How can you even consider this card for a Near-Mint grade?  It has pin holes too...  What do you grade cards without pin holes and scratches?

potokar has been outed plenty of times on this board, I think he can handle it.

and charlie....it is not near mint, I am not grading it near mint. It is in my opinion between grades, excellent to near mint, about an 85 out of 100.

here is an idea......if you don't like the grade or description, don't bid on it!

btw, I wish I could keep this card, but I must auction it for a client. It will probably sell for around $100.00. I know I could sell it for 3x that on our site.

"Outed"..does that mean loads of other members have revealed personal information of the same member without permission??..If so that`s a worry.

Why think he can handle it?,shouldn`t you ask?

potokar has a prior history of being an extreme pest. He hasn't been lately, at least not that I'm aware of. The last time I remember him being a nuisance was with Rich at movieposterbid, but that was awhile ago.
