Interesting, other than Education and A Serious Man, pretty commercial wide release films.

Odd to see a picture pull in 2 acting nominations (Invictus) and nothing anywhere else on the board!

Actually, after looking through all the 1-sheets on that site back to the 20s, I was surprised to find out how many lack-luster posters there were for the best picture winners.  There were a handful that were really cool of course, but probably only 1 in 5, if not 1 in 10.

You know, that's a good point for a lot of the "older poster" or "classic poster" clan to realize if they don't already.  There's a lot of crap out there for the older material as for the newer material. It's just that time has weeded most of it out.  I see folks bellyaching on MoPo about "I gotta buy an Avatar poster to complete my best picture collection-  blech...." and it pisses me off a bit.  There's some worse stuff out there than the avatar onesheet.
Best regards,

Holiday

Thierry to Silhouette:  Please tell her it's a tiny part of my collection so she doesn't think I'm a total creep.  Oh wait, no, I am a total creep.

:o Are there people on MoPo that have all the others already... including the likes of Wings, Grand Hotel, All Quiet, It Happened One Night and Casablanca!?!

I believe so.  I know there is at least one MOPO member/collector who has them all.

Wasn't he trying to sell them a while back?  I wonder what happened to that.

This is one of my pet projects.  I want to get posters for all the Academy Awards nominated movies, so 5 of year, 10 in the early years.  I pretty much have the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s covered.  Still working on the 60s, one piece at a time.  It's hard, because I'm also trying to get different designs from different countries.

This is 8 years of collecting:

It was AA winners.  I never go to Mopo, but I remember him posting on NS4 and trying to sell off his collection.  Something quite amazing at a price also amazing.

At auction it would probably be $200K easy, even in this economy.  I can only imagine what they were asking for a private sale!

The owner of this fantastic collection is a member of this forum but he has never posted - I would wager he has next to no interest in most of the posters or subjects discussed. I believe his collection is second only to the Academy's - they are missing one original release US one sheet - Cavalcade - he needs that one and I think Wings and Cimarron also.

Like Thierry, this is one of my collecting themes although I prefer to concentrate on original release one sheets and quads with country of origin and artwork being influencing factors.

Well good luck to you sir on your journey!

I made an effort to simply watch all the best picture winners when I was in college and I actually came to a similar conclusion.  Each year I would see one film win out over what were often times superior films IMO.  I then decided it wasn't enough to just watch the winners, but also the rest of the nominees as well.  That has been a much longer pursuit and I'm still not done; but I have seen a ton of good movies!

Well, if there are posters out there that the Academy doesn't even have, I'm sure my $200K estimate is way, way low!

Cool stuff though... I hope they decide to start posting on this forum.  It would be amazing to see the collection in question.  I can't even imagine what else they have!

We need a little old skool lovin here!  Maybe we should start a pre-Star Wars section to start attracting the MoPo and NSFGE crowd?
