There's some first rate posters on this thread, I must get some more myself. Keep posting chaps. :)

I second the motion.  Currently, I have no film noir paper, but after looking at some of these images (especially BUNCO SQUAD and STRANGER ON THE THIRD FLOOR) I am realigning my thoughts....thanks to all poster posters of this superb genre...very cool.

Just picked up a couple doozies...

Sorry, no peeping on this one... I'm not even going to try to unfold this IALP one-sheet as it is much too fragile.  I'll likely have it mounted in the near future, though, as it is one of my favorite Bogies.

This Key Largo insert is in comparatively better shape, but the paper is still yellowed, there are numerous pin holes, a few stains and the red has faded a bit.  Still...

My new TBS insert on the hand... wow!  This thing is in fantastic shape!  The paper is still nice and white, no damage that I can see (although I haven't seen it out of the frame yet) and the color isn't too faded yet.

And hmmm... what is that scribbling I see in the bottom photo?  :o

By the way, sorry for the crappy snaps... they were taken with my mobile.

Harry, those are way too cool.  Is that a genuine Bacall autograph?
Nice haul, dude!

Very nice Harry...did you just acquire all these?  If you did that is quite a haul all at once!

I've always wished paper on the Big Sleep was more extravagant as it is one of my favourite films of all time...

Yup, just a few days ago.  It was "bulk" purchase if you will.  ;D

And yes, I agree with your assessment of TBS US posters.  Same goes for other tri-color posters released around the WWII... very lack-luster.  Now the French, they know how to make a poster... even despite little things like a 4 year foreign occupation!

I do love those big French one panels... the Italians too.  Their designs both put the US paper to shame... that said, I still feel lucky to have tracked down those inserts.  I'll post a picture of the In A Lonely Place one sheet in a few months after I get around to having it backed.

I forgot to mention entirely just how jealous I am Harry...I'd love to one day have any original paper on The Big Sleep (or Key Largo/In a Lonely Place for that matter)!

No Out of the Past is a head scratcher and I see no reason why Dead Reckoning should be at #3 - It's nicely done, but nothing special...

Well, I realize that this thread is a post "your" film noir posters, but since it's been dead for a while and most collectors probably aren't sure exactly what "film noir" is, I'll post the top 100 film noir one sheets as featured and ranked on the "Where Danger Lives" blog.  Perhaps these will inspire us to buy more of these....

There are, I have noticed, some educated film buffs who patronise this digital space.
Can they define the essence of flim noir and express the ideal in contemporary terms? Or is it just shadowy characters and brooding atmosphere??

This is a question for Rich, he is as fussy about defining Noir as I am with SF.
I will not DARE tread on his toes here.
(I was waiting for him to step in and tell us which posted aren't noir)

Okay, and then you sit on the fence and wait for Rich to clarify ...

Ahh, but now I've seen the light on your true obsession: Addiction Studies. That's Aussie slang for "normal behaviour", right???  ;)

I agree... OOTP is actually one of the few film noirs that both has an awesome poster and is actually a good movie.  I finally got around to watching This Gun for Hire and The Glass Key and they were pretty bad films.

And is High Sierra really considered film noir?

As I've said before, Film Noir posters are fantastic, but the films are dull and boring,, with the odd exception...

Some people consider it a "noir".  It certainly has elements.  But I would not label it as such...
