Need help: Beardsley Isolde print
« on: October 03, 2011, 12:47:49 PM »
Friends of ours own a gallery a few streets over. They had a client bring in a print which they wanted trimmed to fit a frame they already own to save $. When I saw the print, I recognized it, but couldn't remember where I had seen it before. I told my friends not to trim it until I look into it.

Here is a bad phone pic:

Later research reveals that the artist is the famous illustrator Beardsley and his rendition of the tragic character of Isolde (obviously).

The dimensions are 33.5"x50" (maybe longer), and it shows yellowing on the back while having that 'ye olde paper' smell. The original piece is from the later 1890s, but I think this is around WW2 era, give or take, due to the dimensions. It is no cheapie commercial print, nothing blurry, very sharp, very pristine.

Any info on this? Much appreciated in advance, might be able to save this piece (I really dig it) from getting chopped up.

Thanks guys.
