That's what I find particularly striking about this BATMAN BEGINS poster, one of my favorite modern poster designs...

How about the two Road Warrior one sheets.  They make full use of the vertical format, but it is used to portray a horizontal scene.  Not really sure where they fit, but all of the lines are of the vertical persuasion.
