Channons Inaugural Auction, June 29th, 6:30pm, UK
« on: June 24, 2011, 12:24:03 PM »
Hey guys,

I thought this maybe of interest to a few members.
A couple of days ago a good friend of mine informed me of a fantastic auction taking place next week.

Channons Inaugural Auction.
It is being held at The Royal Automobile Club in Surrey, UK, on June 29th at 6:30pm.

For us lot (poster collectors) there isn't much in way of posters, but there are a few nice items:
Pictures and Posters Link.

Specifically, I would personally like to point out the following items as highlights of the poster auction:

Grand Prix Posters

Goldfinger Alamo Drafthouse Poster (Red Variant)

Aston Martin DB5 and Ferrari 355 Print

Moonraker UK Quad

For Your Eyes Only UK Quad

Licence To Kill UK Quad Teaser

Special Charity Lot: James Bond - OHMSS and Casino Royale signed lithographs

I know this isn't a poster, but it's pretty damn cool in my opinion:

Porsche GT3 RS

Channons Inaugural Auction.

No mate, none of the posters are mine, but the Casino Royale lithograph in the special charity lot is mine - it's grouped together with a OHMSS lithograph donated by a very good friend of mine in aid of a young boy who suffers from autism, and gets no help from the government; a bit sick when you think about it as asylum seekers walk straight into this country and get thousands of pounds and free housing and dental care, the lot, yet a kid who deserves all the love and support in the world gets bugger all!

The Goldfinger red variant was mine - this was actually the one I was accused of not owning. Remember that!? Lol.
It no longer belongs to me, but the image is mine and I do know the current owner, and so I kindly gave Channons Auction the image to save them time to help them out when I was asked earlier this week.

Some may think so, mate.

Personally, I think they'll get the £2000 for it for a number of reasons:
The gold variant consistently sells at Christies for around £800-1200, and there's 300 of those!
The last & only previous red variant to publicly come up for sale was on eBay and that sold for near £1000 ... on eBay!
The auction location will play a huge part.
And, lets not forget, Aston Martin owners & collectors go crazy for Connery gear.

When it comes to auctions for pieces like this I tend to find that by doubling the eBay price that's what it will normally sell for.
And remember, there's only 10 of the red variant.

I seem to recall one of the very first gold variants that came up for sale at Christies went for something over £3000!  :o

Apologies Jonny, just checked and it sold for £2500 ($3440).
I knew it was over 3k lol!

no offense, but no.

Why would you offend me by saying that, mate?
That's just how I find it a lot of the time when it comes to Christies & eBay - you obviously see it differently.  :P

and if i had 2-3k to chuck about it would go on an original quad, not a print.

I know what you mean, but a lot of buyers at Christies etc can throw that sort of money at anything, it's a drop in the ocean to them and if they see something they want then they'll buy it! That's how The Reel Poster Gallery and CineMasterpieces do so well - their clientele is astounding!

No worries, I do think the Bond gear gets the best prices at Christies though.
I worked out how much Christies actually get for selling one poster (they won't take anything with a value of less than £300-500) - no wonder they're so stinking rich!

newcastle suck.

Don't I know it - got rid of my season ticket when we got relegated.
Vowed never to go back whilst Mike Ashley is still in charge!

next time i need to change money up, im coming to you...

Regarding the auction:
It is tonight at 6:30pm GMT.

I'll be watching the auction unfold myself; rather intrigued to see how much the Goldfinger Red Variant poster goes for.
Also looking forward to seeing how much that Porsche GT3 RS goes for as well!

Well, this is the thing, it 'sold' for £1700 but I know what the reserve was and therefore know it didn't meet the reserve.
I'll probably speak with the owner of it sometime over the weekend to see what the crack is.

I did, however, speak with Mr. Channon who owns Channons Auction Ltd.
I watched the whole auction. They got a famous auctioneer in who has appeared on 'Cash In The Attic', 'Bargain Hunt' etc (British antique programmes for those outside the UK), and to my surprise he was terrible! Not professional enough, and he obviously didn't do his homework on anything in the whole sale! I told Mr. Channon I was disappointed for him - he expressed the same disappointment and I quote "...hindsight is a wonderful thing!".

I sincerely hope Mr. Channon gets someone else in for their next auction.

EDIT - The red Goldfinger variant DID sell; £1870.00 including buyers premium of 10%.
