I also have my collection online, for easy reference, though as I don't have many posters I can remember what I have and the condition pretty easily, but nice to have the reference handy from anywhere there is a net connection.
Since moving I picked up a virus and lost all the info, so have to start again.......I won't swear, but it is a twat.
That does sound like it sux. My simple tips (which most may be already aware):
- store all your documents on a seperate partition or hard disk to your operating system. Your operating system should be on its own dedicated partition or disk so if it gets corrupted and not bootable you don't lose your docs/files
- set an incrementable backup system to run over night. I think most external drives come with this software thrown in.
- make another set of regular backups and store them offsite.
