Rich, there really were a lot of people glued to their computers the last few hours. In these auctions, you can't take it for granted that it's "yours" until the fat lady sings.

I'm glad you got that poster. It was a must-have for your collection and the price was right.

"Bruce auctions" always have me at the computer as long as I need to be unless I'm busy and forget
most of my wins are in time extension.

"that poster".. yes, I've been looking for it for a long time.. like 10 years or something. But the larger size, of which one is hanging up at the Hard Rock Casino in the coffee shop, is really the poster I want. It is about as good a Las Vegas showgirl image can get.

I think I understand why lawyers would find that poster so appealing!

Recently ended on ebay, this great looking 1920 poster for "Treasure Island", with a cast that includes Lon Chaney. Size is 14" x 22" (a quarter sheet?, reproduction?) Any expert around?

According to wikipedia, "Treasure Island" is a lost film, and according to the seller listing "I had the film to go with this and tried watching it but it was poor quality and I couldn't hear any sound so I threw it out"

This leaves just 2 options. Either the seller is lying about having the film or... he deserves an eternal ass-kicking for throwing it (I couldn't hear any sound... yes moron! it`s a silent... moron1)

Matias - it sure looks like a window card to me (and the size is right).  Shame it's so beat up but I guess the most important parts are ok.

WC it is  :D

If the guy has this WC for a 1920 film, it may not be impossible that he also has (or had) a copy of the film, right?
So, if he threw it away (as his listing says)... how much $ did he lost, and how much must he be punished for trashing this rarity?

Of course its certainly possible he had a copy (somehow?).  But I seriously doubt it.

"Treasure Island" sure looks right to me.  Hope it's not stuck on that cardboard though.  Would clean up just fine, imho.

I don't think there's much commercial value to finding old "lost" films, I'd be surprised if any of the DVD sales even recoup an expensive restoration, and suspect even a transfer to safety film is barely a breakeven venture.  The bragging rights would be priceless though, as would giving back a bit of cinema history.  If the story is true, he's a jackass.

Matias, the seller said "I have 3 of these posters listed all seperate titles. I can combine shipping."
I'm curious...Did you look at the other titles?  Were they more WC's like this?
Great poster, even with the damage and mounting issues.

I did hear the other film he threw in the bin was London after Midnight.... ;)

It's a great poster, I would have went to that myself for it, and the film would have had much more value than the poster.

here they are Ted.. they were all in poor shape and really the Treasure Island was the only important item. That title is obviously rare and while I am surprised at the price in this condition, I'm not entirely surprised. Of course, I love the gag he put in there about the film print & can't believe anyone thinks he really meant it.

if it ever is found, it will be in some super-backwoods place like a small hamlet in Chile or Bulgaria, or even buried in an old Soviet warehouse as "degenerate art"

or

some old studio exec in Hollywood will die and they'll find a room in his wine cellar that is lined with old film prints

More likely that he had a copy of the 1960 version and confused it with this one.

This poster is BEEEEEEEEEE-UTIFUL.
Ended at just over 5k.
Next time you get one, Bruce, just deal with me directly, OK?

If I splurged on it, I would have it lightly restored and up on the wall ASAP. Just an incredible movie poster.
