This.  I was watching on Heritage Live and was stunned when it kept going higher and higher.  It's very generous of them to allow people to thrill bid and not be obligated to pay for it once they win.  Maybe I'll try it today  eyeroll

Haha...let me know how it works out Angelo!

I'm rather late in this - who do you refer to?
Telling the truth is never a bad thing, so ebay will surely side with you??

Why did he report you? Did you send him a private message, telling him that the cards were a later reissue? and even if so, why would he then complain to ebay about that?

As you said, some people...   moron1

Do you know why the suits are now pink and not orange, though??
It's an interesting reason ...

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is legendary for having his inmates wear pink underwear.

A prison officer here in the UK told me the following:
The reason the colour pink is used is because it is linked to calmer behaviour amongst inmates compared to the orange suits.

It's the psychology of colour - which works ... maybe this forum should have a pink theme instead??  laugh1

very simply, Sheriff Joe wants to humiliate the inmates in any way that cannot be found to be unconstitutional, so that next time they'll get busted in another state

So did any of you win this Devil Commands poster?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180642256788&ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT

I was the second high bidder, but I felt like it was only a token bid... I thought for sure my snipe wouldn't even get placed for being too low.  Sure it has some damage, but the image itself was in good shape in the other parts could be cleaned up pretty easily.  Someone made out well... I wonder if it will be restored and turn up in HA's next sig auction!

The other nice aspect of this poster is that it came from the Forrest Ackerman collection. With a little TLC (or not), its still a great looking, intensely vibrant, first release poster, from this film!  sm1

I was watching it Matt but did not end up bidding.  It's going to be a pretty expensive restoration job but it sure is a great poster!

If the current linen backing was done well and is still holding up, I wouldn't expect the fill and restoration to be more than $200 or so.  I think the last copy auctioned at HA (albiet in fantastic condition) went for $2k.

That DEVIL COMMANDS is wicked.
I missed the reissue (same image yet B&W) on Ebay a month or so back.
I would've liked any version from this film, especially with such a nice image of King Karloff.

Harry, this poster almost certainly needs to be removed from the backing. Forry did not use the best people - he always used the cheapest. Restoring this poster will probably cost around $500

I think this guess is probably more realistic to get it looking really good.  The linen looks pretty dirty and beat up and there is writing that needs to be recreated.  Still for about $800 or so total (more than I can stomach unfortunately) someone could have a real stunner on their wall.

This brings up an interesting point. Is an $800 poster that is 10% re-created a "better" buy than a $2,000 poster that is 100% there?

That's easy to answer with two letters: NO

But for a budget-minded buyer who really wants the art and 90% of the original it may be a feasible alternative

I'd go with the 100% complete poster.
What the heck...another $1200 I don't have, but Boris is worth every penny.

Actually, it was a trick question. The 90% poster IS  a better buy, but only if you can get it into an auction where they will describe it so vaguely that everyone will think it is a 100% poster, and you will sell it for $2,000, and can now afford to buy the real deal with the proceeds!

I believe that $2000 copy of Devil Commands to be an outlier based on a large premium for it being high grade and the first to appear at auction in several years.  This poster usually commands in the $1000-1200 range for average condition or linenbacked examples.
The one in the auction referenced above definitely would have to be re-backed and would run at least what Rich quoted (despite what restorers tell you, most restoration/linenbacking is not easily reversible and great care has to be taken not to damage the piece further).
