Wow. And forgive me, but for one fugly poster.

I hate Taun Tauns. Almost all of the Empire posters are ruined with a huge and out of place Taun Taun that compromises the entire artwork.

Hmmm...I did not know anyone could hate Taun Tauns (unless you are Han Solo of course!).  They provide life saving warmth and Wampa fodder after all...

I've heard that country boys like Taun-Tauns
they don't squeal very much and they don't kick

They seem like such a small part of the movie and the overall Star Wars universe and they're not even cool. You have a beautiful piece of romantic artwork of Han Solo and Leia sharing a passionate moment and to the foreground is an enormous voyeuristic Taun Taun. It absolutely ruins the US poster for me. Even that blue version with more characters has a big stupid Taun Taun on it. WHY WERE TAUN TAUNS SO VITAL TO THAT MOVIE'S PROMOTION?

Clearly, as suggested, it was to appeal to the rural male market.

I can answer your question!!
for those that don't know, Lucas wanted to make a Flash Gordon movie completely based on Alex Raymond's comic strip series from 1934-1943. However, he was unable to secure the rights, so he created his own universe based on Flash Gordon.

Taun-tauns were designed after the beaked snow-birds from the  ice-planet  sequence in Flash Gordon in 1938-1939.
I used to own the original art to this one.

Any males living in rural areas have any idea what that means? Help out us big city folk.

It was a joke, because Movieposterbid (who's human name escapes me) suggested country boys have sex with farm animals and Taun Taun's are an excellent bestiality candidate. At least I hope that's what he was implying, because if not, I need to see a therapist.

Great poster but I am shocked that I went for so much.

That's astonishing really!  A superb poster, one of the best there is, but man that's a crazy price for one not in pristine condition (like Bruce's Gilda example)!

I bet everyone who has one is very happy right about now...

What is with the funny business?  It is now showing a sale price of $9K instead of $19K from earlier... that is a HELLUVA typo!

Thing is, there was an obvious bidding war going on. if dealers who have a copy of this suddenly jack their prices to a number close to the Heritage sale today.. those posters will sit a LONG time, collecting additional cobwebs, not already printed on the poster   :)

This.  I was watching on Heritage Live and was stunned when it kept going higher and higher.  It's very generous of them to allow people to thrill bid and not be obligated to pay for it once they win.  Maybe I'll try it today  eyeroll
