Just happened to see a couple "season appropriate" heavy hitters that were sold on ebay recently. This first one, auctioned by Profiles in History, on July 31st, was a Swedish OS for Frankenstein (1931)bed1  It sold for $10,000.00 (only one bid and that looks to have been the opening bid):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Frankenstein-vintage-Swedish-1-sheet-poster-Lot-70-/112043671808?hash=item1a1652c100%3Ag%3A8toAAOSwhOVXdXJ%7E&nma=true&si=nQUC8WXsLD8M2ST%252FU6A1qHswj80%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

The other, sold by a Belgian seller, was for a copy of the beautiful, pre-war Belgian poster for Chaney's version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923)bed1

This was sold on July 25th, and went for $7689.89 (and 12 bids). Such a great looking poster even tho all of the borders, including the top imprint area had been trimmed off. An easy fix, if wanted and the poster art itself looks vibrant and undamaged.

(For comparison, in March 2007, HA sold an untrimmed copy for $11,352.50

And this copy of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs went for $6100.00, even with its various condition issues, most of which can be dealt with by any good restorer. This is another whose imagery is timeless and classic, imho:

A restored copy of the B sheet hits Heritage on October 28
https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/snow-white-and-the-seven-dwarfs-rko-1937-one-sheet-27-x-41-style-b-gustaf-tenggren-artwork/p/7132-42038.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515

The artist of the B-sheet was Gustaf Tenggren, one of the inspirational giants who helped Walt Disney conceptualize the look of many of those early Disney classics.
There is a 30x40 that builds upon the B-sheet design and it looks like this:

Some of the newer Japanese posters were fetching relatively high results at eMovie tonight.

The Finding Vivian Maier B2 is the only copy I've seen, and possibly super-rare.  With 5 minutes left in the auction, I was the high bidder with a bid almost thrice the previous highest bid, then was outbid shortly after.

I decided to utilize the Google search engine and found a chirashi on eBay, and figured it would be a nice consolation after losing out on the B2.  Great self portrait of Ms. Maier, and the personal effects are kinda like an old school version of a new trend, where people lay out all the stuff they're packing for an adventure and take a photo.  Anyway, I think it's cool.

This is one I would pay half of that for a mint one.  I don't get it.

It reminded me of this member, (Nobleguard) who was offering a copy for sale in June of 2015:

Another interesting result. A High, winning bid of $210.00 for a 2015 commercial poster for BULLITT. Thought the winning bidder's user ID suggests why he/she wanted it.  ;)

And the "Why So Serious" OS also seem to be maintaining/holding a good price, with this one being sold for $190.00 tonight.

Half!?, drop a zero and I might be in. Purely paying for a rarity/hype factor. I think the white dress, white Spacey sport coat is a better looking poster even.

Good grief!

Is anyone else surprised by this?

I for one would have had no idea.

I was tracking it, (just out of interest, not with any intention of buying), and it was clear that it might be a "biggie" but not as big as it turned out to be.

No other still from that film on EMP has approached anywhere near that sum but then again none of the others were as striking as this one, so kind of surprised but not very.

I guess it shows that original UNI horror material is still very hot, and maybe a little more so at this time of year.

This makes me quite happy, I have a whole bunch of stills from Universal films, Frankie, Dracula, Son of Frankie, Dracula's Daughter, Werewolf of London and lots more. Not all first release but quite a few of them are.

Yes, I definitely like to hedge my bets!

My real surprise was reserved for the $394k for the ET original artwork posted somewhere else on here. Now that is staggering.

This beautiful French 1P for Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs finished up on ebay yesterday, (sold by Dominique) for $1,110.00   thumbup

I think someone got quite a nice deal here.

Was it a first release?  I don't know how to differentiate between them, but I think there were several early re-releases that used the same art and had RKO distribution...

EMP has this one in their archive. Though I cant make it out, the printers info on the EMP copy looks to be different and is also located in a different spot than the one Dominique offered. So maybe Besson's copy is a slightly later RR? The colors on the EMP copy really pop, too, whereas the other is much more muted.

Will be interesting to see where this ends up, considering its slight fade issue. It's currently at $3500.00

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=4413157

It is on pace to beat what I paid for it when I purchased it from Heritage back in 2006, which is always good, but that was also he best deal I've ever seen on a Kong TC because of all the condition issues.

It wound up at $4300.00 this evening.

+$117.50

Sean, are you surprised at all, that all these years later, this LC sold for about the same amount that you bought it for? I guess its condition issues were the likely factor, even with it being a more rare item? And do you recall if the borders had been airbrushed when you owned it? It isnt stated in the current description but with the repairs done to some of the corners, it could make sense that they were retouched, too.

Is the "undead" who swooped in and nabbed this from MAGG, our same beloved, Undead member?  dontknow.gif

How could Maria Ouspenskaya be so blatantly snubbed and not included (visually) on this OS? Universal needs her gypsy curse for that oversight.  ;D
