I can tell you some of the war posters and travel posters are going for ridiculous amounts. Nothing new I guess - the power of Heritage and all that.

And this last series of WWI and WWII posters being currently auctioned are wonderful to behold, too.  thumbup

Bruce sold a Gilda 6 years ago for $25K.  I haven't heard of a copy selling for less than 15K in at least 15 years - at least of the style B. You can find the style A for $1200 if you are lucky (or the R50 one-sheet).

The Japanese Ghost of Frankenstein is a great deal at current price. I was considering buying it to send it back to Japan to auction.

Thanks, Sean.  We can always count on you for good info. about the big ticket items.  thumbup

Gilda ended $1200? That's crazy!

What did Public Enemy do?

$167,300.00 (inc the BP)

Considering the work that was done to it, too:

"The poster has had significant restoration to address missing paper in the upper right side of the image.

Almost all of the Cagney image was completely intact other than a chip in his chin, as well as all of the art deco artwork in the upper left of the poster and all of the lower credits other than a hole in the "E" of the title. About half of the art deco artwork below the two portraits and a portion of Harlow's image remained intact. Much of the Warner Brothers logo as well as the lithographer's logo and even the writing in the lower right border were intact.

The missing area includes a large portion of the upper right corner extending into Harlow's image and reaching down into the large field below the art deco images below the portraits."

Hmmm, I don't know...that might be a little too much resto for my taste. I'm sure the seller is happy, though.

Im sure.

The last time this very same OS sold (and was bought by the current consignor, I'm assuming), in March of 2012, he/she paid $55,268.75

So, the four year hold and decision to sell made for a nice, 2016 profit.  happy1

Why were the words Full Bleed used specific to this 1 Sheet over and above what I would suggest has long been the norm?

As for the price it hit, bloody hell!

Is that term used when the artwork goes completely to the edge of a poster, which also lacks any kind of border?

It is, yes.  But the question was more around why use that terminology in this day and age when ALL posters are full bleed?

What is more full bleed about this Casino Royale poster than any other modern poster of its ilk?

And maybe, although I doubt it, that could explain the stupidly high price it went for...

Cheers chaps.

Sounds like a nice trip there, T.  Have fun.  cool1

It's darn cool that this is the original artwork for the classic movie, but I was not expecting that result.  The estimate was $10-20k.

because in the time period of the poster in question, it was rare to see such a movie poster and it should be described properly.

Yes.. such an iconic image by the artist. Makes one wonder why he decided to consign/sell it. Unless it came down to needing some extra cash, for an emergency or the like.

Cobblers.

2006, all posters were already full bleed.  Specific to Bond posters, they had been full bleed since 1995.

https://movieposters.ha.com/itm/movie-posters/james-bond/the-world-is-not-enough-mgm-1999-poster-52-x-74-special-advance-style/a/7125-86932.s?ic2=mytracked-lotspage-lotlinks-12202013

The above links to a poster from 1999.  No mention of Full bleed.  Indeed the only reason for bringing this up is because it is the first time (in my area of interest) that I have seen this terminology used to advertise a modern poster.  It would be like advertising, "And it's also 27x41!!'

I didn't notice your link went to a modern poster. Must have a newbie in the office.

Ah... gotcha. Do you know the winning bidder?

And it would still be interesting to know why artist, Robert Gleason, chose to put it up for auction, since it is SUCH a recognizable, and iconic poster image.
