If you pay 87K for a movie poster, there is something seriously wrong with you....call it insight on capitalists and their egos.  IMO

Fixed that fer ya.  wynk

A lot of people would say "there is something seriously wrong with" someone who spends $0.87 on a poster.

It has nothing to do with capitalism or ego, in many cases.  Personally, I've spent $X on something, because I care a lot about it and it means something to me.  The same situation for many others, of course.

I'm referring to the ones who would pay $87K for a movie poster... not the others.  If you pay 87K for a movie poster, there is something seriously wrong with you.  Not telepathy, call it insight on capitalists and their egos.

I'd tend to agree with this.  $87k for a piece of printed paper is ridiculous, imo.  I'd much rather buy an original Calder or any low end modern art pieces.  I don't think I could ever convince myself to buy a movie poster for more than $10k.

I think some posters are worth that money. In fact I am sure. Iam only willing to give up a Casablanca insert for Hockney's  "Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy".

And that is that :P

(Poster) art in the eye of the beholder, I guess, eh, T?

And some would likely say the same of spending even $100.00 for a poster. It's all about what one can afford, and what value they assign (again, to any collectible) in their own head, too.

Well posts are all "IMO" but perhaps I am generalizing too much... it just seems so foreign to me to have that kind of money.  Doesn't compute. Clearly I need to broaden my social circle...

So true and totally linked to your current financial situation.  Right now, I'm only thinking about my kids.  I do not trust Contemporary Art (which has been grossly inflated by the Chinese and should come down drastically in the coming year) and I do not trust niche collecting like posters.  I do trust Modern Art and Old Masters to some extant, even thought XIX century art has gone down a lot.  So in my mind, anything lower than $10,000 is fair game when it comes to posters.  Anything above I do not trust.  Which is why I turn to fine art.  But like you said, Jeff, it's all extremely personal.  Some people won't touch the stock market, some people invest in gold...  I look at what's best for my kids.

This would be EMP #1 cost saver other than laying off staff...

Quit wrapping every poster purchased in another layer of craft paper. I get tubes with rolled posters that most of the weight is from the craft, not the actual posters. That increases the shipping cost of every tube going out by probably 50%.

Dale, your packaging is impeccable. And it was NO where near $12.00 to ship to me (Iowa to Calif.) Plus, the posters were here in 3 days, MAX!, AND in a gorilla tube.

Just sayin'.   cheers

I have one, too, Ari... and it seems the paper is more than just a little delicate.  girly2.gif
