I did a screen grab from the video (which is fuzzy) and adjusted the focus as best I could, as well as slightly adjusting the color temperature, using the auctioneer's skin tone as the gauge, (as the white balance seems a bit off). The exposure was also slightly adjusted.

The poster is seen behind him. I did a side by side with the online / catalog image as a comparison.

Here it is:

For false advertising, can refunds be sought? I buy on colour not history. I can't see in person, buying online trusting the advertisement

I very much know that reds can be difficult to photograph (or film) and light (regardless of the source of the red).

Here are 2 more examples of the same poster. One with a more red cast, and the other, more muted, with a red-brown tone to it.

Again, as a comparison to the HA image, which to me, has a more red-orange "glow."

I'm not buying this boosted image talk.
Minor boost, maybe, but that much?
That video still looks washed out and, I can't believe for a moment that Heritage would use such an obviously deceptive pic for the auction.

I'm only showing comparatives, Ted and making no comment on the image differences (from the various sources), aside from what I know and have learned about lighting and photographing of certain colors.

That's also why i indicated that the screen grab and video image are far from perfect and why i based the adjustments on the skin tone of the living auctioneer, who looks rather healthy (not washed out) and with good color in his cheeks.

Also of interest is that the pic on the right has been manipulated with Photoshop transformation.
Notice how wide the head is on the right as opposed to the image on the left and the image in the vid?

Its entirely possible that whoever transformed that brown image also used Photoshop's color correction tool automatically?
That's quite a difference between what was advertised and what was sold.
I'm wondering whether the true color falls somewhere in between?

the image width issue is most likely the difference between a photographic image and a video image, both of which use different algorithms as well as the monitor on which you are viewing - all of which have different aspect ratios. I'm sure if I did the same capture on my monitors they would be different

A good number of variables come into play, no doubt.

$13,145 for the Thunderball Teaser Quad.

Goodness.  I was left way behind this one.

~£9,000, plus whatever tax is payable upon entry to the UK...

HERITAGE POWER... WOW!!!

I want to say that 90% of the lots sold for way more than what they should have.  I had about 30 items on my list, I did my research on previous sales, and all of them sold x2 or x3 above average.  Furthermore, I own about 50 or so items that went for sale and when I compare what they sold for vs what I paid for them, I can multiply by 5 on average, and in one case by 19.

So good for Heritage, good for sellers but not so good for bidders, imo.

From my limited perspective, I can concur with that assessment.

Which begs the question, Why?

Today's sales is furthering this assessment with some of the lesser items from my particular area of interest having sold, and $500 for something of which there are three examples currently on offer on ebay at ~$100 does raise questions.

I reckon there are pros and cons for both sales platforms.  Heritage can certainly work magic with their photos (I have been bitten here as a result), and ebay sellers can invariably pack a poster as though they were packing a bag of nuts, but I would prefer to the take a chance on the latter as opposed the former in these situations.

they sold 1 poster for $95k
1 for $89k
1 for $83k
2 pieces for $77k

...and they aren't anywhere near the highest prices they've gotten for quite a number of posters

plus they get such high valued posters with such regularity that it sets them apart from any sellers

there just aren't better words to say about it.

congrats to Grey Smith and Jim Halperin

Undoubted congrats aside, just because they sell posters for one market at $97k, I wonder why the 'other', and lower end of the market that looks for $100 posters, doesn't then just hit ebay for the true(r) prices.

I am looking at a Bond double bill Octopussy / For Your Eyes Only Quad that sold happily on Heritage for ~$300 this weekend, which on ebay is having a hard time attracting interest at $70.

I could care less who buys what from where, this is just curiosity about buying habits...

I understand, Rich, but c'mon, from a buyer's perspective, what the fuck is wrong with these people?  Just too much cash?
