Some nice deals on The African Queen items, just a little while ago, on the bay.

Belgian, trimmed and needs a bit of TLC, but sold for only $41.77   thumbup

And a complete set of 8 LC, went for only $133.48  faint2.gif   thumbsup.gif

I'd be worried about that lobby card set - *could* be the set from the Laserdisc release

Was also watching the Belgian but yet again the asinine eBay Global Shipping program would have screwed me over had I won...

I didnt know a repro set came with the laserdisc, Chris. Good to know, tho. Do you know, was that set marked in any way to indicate they were a promo item that was included?

I would think something printed on them would indicate that, so that there was no confusion? And is the size identical to the original LCs too?  dontknow.gif

And if not legit, the winner could return them for a refund.

I am not sure about markings Jeff but I believe they are undersized vs. the originals

This gorgeous still was sold last night for $60. But what really makes it special is Bruce's description. A true Cooper fan

I wasn't the underbidder, but my bid was very close to the final result.  I think it would still be a bargain at twice the price!  My spidey senses tell me we'll see it cleaned up and offered again soon....

I don't know what it sold for, but it isn't a major film and while Brigitte is a cult figure (for a limited amount of work) I find it doubtful this poster could be resold for much profit
if she was illustrated as her character from Metropolis, sure, but that's not what you have

let us also not forget, she was a Nazi sympathizer (why Fritz Lang left her behind)

Not from what I've read...

http://www.nytimes.com/1996/06/14/arts/brigitte-helm-88-cool-star-of-fritz-lang-s-metropolis.html
Quote
While he may not have been the sadist many of his actors made him out to be, Lang was such a hard-driving perfectionist that Ms. Helm, who worked virtually every day for 18 months, often hanging upside down or standing in water up to her waist for hours at a time, found the experience excruciating.

After one torturous ordeal, when she wondered why a double could not have taken her place during the nine days it took to shoot a scene in which she is encased in a metallic robot shell, her face obscured, Lang haughtily claimed an auteur's creative sensibility.

"I have to feel that you are inside the robot," he said. "I was able to see you even when I didn't."

After the movie made her a star, Ms. Helm, who had her own artistic standards, refused to make another movie with Lang.

She made a successful transition to sound, but refused to abandon Germany for Hollywood. Then in 1935, disgusted with the Nazi takeover of the film industry, she abruptly quit, marrying an industrialist, Hugo von Kunheim, himself a Nazi opponent.

oh jeez.. my mistake.. I was thinking about Thea Von Harbou. the key is when I mentioned "why Lang left her" to see who I'm meaning

Seems someone got a good deal here.  thumbsup.gif  Described as the first release, international version for Attack of the 50 Ft Woman.

It sold for a best offer of $2500.00. With good provenance, too.. being bought initially from Daniel Strebin and linen backed by Jose Carpio of Cinemonde.

And... considering what the US OS can go for...

yes it is the Intl style, however while maybe a good price, when you place it next to the US poster, the color & volume is considerably reduced and it's easy to see why it would garner less money.

Thanks for posting that, Rosa.

Yup.
When I saw the post, I thought the poster was faded or sun-damaged.
Its just so damn pale compared to the American.

Yeah wow, Hayes looks duo-tone in the int'l 1-sheet.  Never noticed the quality difference before...

I adjusted the color temperature of the seller's photo, just a bit, because the image looked too blue (the borders and white areas make this pretty noticeable, as well as her skin tone). I adjusted just enough so that the borders now look a more creamy, off white. Nothing else was adjusted. Here is that result. I think the color balance being off in the original photo made it look a bit more washed out, overall, too.

Original:
