They aren't repros, they are re-creations.

Yeah, but is the above text an official reproduction or is it a fake?

It comes from this dictionary:
which says:

re–create
verb re–cre·ate \ˌrē-krē-ˈāt\

: to make (something from the past) exist or seem to exist again : to create (something) again

All semantics.

It is a reproduction of something that has already existed.  A good reproduction, but still a reproduction.  You can take a Van Gogh and repaint it perfectly from scratch, you can call it a recreation if it helps you sell it to the gullible of the world, but it is still a goddam repro.

no, they are not repros.

a repro is directly copying the original to produce the result

S2/AFI posters are completely redrawn images, making them a new product.

I agree...but I do not agree with the ridiculous prices they have been achieving

The high end versions were always priced high.. even from the get go, and when available online from the Jacks Gallery source.  ;)

totally correct. they released originally at $250 each and the Kong 3sh was always 800 or more. They were available at galleries here in Vegas, in LA, NYC.. I would see them all over the place

You are right Rich. I have seen them cheaper too. In fact I have been waiting for prices to come down but it seems Kong is going up the roof! To me they are "repros" but I still like them. Not at this price tho! :)

It seems like there is a King Kong frenzy... Star Wars style!

See note on restoration below. It sold for over $300. I assume Jaime Mendez or Poster Mountain did the job. I will want that done to my posters too!!!

Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster! We have seen two examples of the 1934 Shirley Temple Christmas poster, but we have never before seen this poster! A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the defects described below, and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Poster Mountain also does a lot of great work gel backing pieces, including my 30x40 for the The Hustler.

Yeah, Poster Mountain does great work.  It's cool how they restored it and maintained the vintage vibe, with the original pop of the colors and all.

I bought Ferris Bueller's for $300 a couple years ago and I remember hesitating for the longest time because I thought I was totally overpaying.  I still do, but now I know I'm not the biggest fool.

And yeah, Bruce...  There were a few things I was looking at today but everything zoomed way above my threshold.

The 5,700$ Casablanca LC is another example. Prices for those LC are just getting silly.
