I'm English but haven't the foggiest. Something relating to quadrilateral or quadrangle?

What does "quad" mean anyways?

T

pretty sure it means "4-up" as the British have paper sizes based on the smallest format and a quad is 4 times that base.

I also recall that a "crown" size was the original size of a handbill that would be posted for Royal notices that would be posted all over town 200 years ago and this is why it is called "Crown"
Crown size is 1/4 the size of a Quad (and Double Crown is 1/2 size of a Quad)

Yep, pretty much as Rich says.

Our base unit is the Double crown 20x30 ( twice the size of a Crown 15x20 ), so for example out 4 sht is 4 times a Double Crown @ 40x60.

The Quad is 4 times bigger than the Crown hence to give it it's correct title the "Quad Crown".  Quads also are available in 60x20 ( it's all about surface area ), and early ones are vertical...  And then we have the Quad Royale, @ 40x50..  Clear as mud..
It's more than a Hobby...

and really the key is the name of the paper size. Somewhere there is a chart reading all UK paper sizes that I have seen, meaning from stationary sheets to posters. In the case of the US, our 8x10 sheet is referred to as a "foolscap" even thought it is not the standard 8.5x13 of a real foolscap sheet.

On a lighter non quad related note I was a little surprised that with a ll of the fervor and what not lately over the Empire Strikes Back B "purple" or dark version that this one lasted a whopping 12 hours before being bought on Flea-Bay especially in untrimmed form. Not mint but would flatten but nicely with little effort.

The last time I saw another video poster for Troll (1986), was about 5 years ago.  It sold for $130, and it was in much worse condition than this one, which sold for $26.

I really liked the movie when I was a kid, and I watched it again a few days ago for the first time since I was a kid.  Amazing how some films just don't seem the same when you see them again later in life.

Anyway, congrats to the winner.

This one of my faves of the series, too. The comic timing between Powell and Loy is pure genius.

I was eyeing that Some Like It Hot half sheet on emovie.  Already out of my budget though.  Checked the auction history and the only two they've sold went for around $2k --- too high for this guy!  Aw family and kids -- must be so practical...

Well, looks like there are a ton of Eastern Europeans for next Thursday too...some good stuff lately in these categories.  Scored the C3PO tonight....needed it to complete having one Polish of each Original Trilogy movie.

$6200.00  clap clap clap

US 1/2sheet for After the Thin Man (1936)

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=3883219

That was a great result!!  More proof that quality paper from the "golden age" of 1930's titles is performing well...I love the font treatment....the fading color of the title and the tweak on the word "THIN"...the stars in the O's...little accents that enrichen the poster...
